Day 39 Nov 24th – Umina Beach day 2

Sitting having a few ales last night, Ross and Barb laughed at the faint snoring sound coming from Poo Poo Head’s end of the camper.   Ross wandered off to the toilet and when he returned he announced the snoring coming from the camper behind us and not Poo Poo Head at all. Now, if you knew you snored is it acceptable to travel in a canvas camper and camp in caravan parks within five feet of other campers.   In the dead of night in a caravan park the sound of TV, arguing, snoring, and farting travel much further than you could [ ... ]

Day 38 Nov 23rd – Umina Beach

We have proper internet now in Umina, and have just uploaded the photos for the last 4 days into the posts Last night when we arrived at Toowoon Bay and picked our site, there was a very small hiking tent set up at the extreme rear of the site behind us.    Ross reversed onto our site and to save juggling the camper backwards and forwards he reversed the camper passed the little hike tent within about 6 inches. A guy sprang out of the tent and jump away from as if he was about to be run over. We walked the entire length [ ... ]

Day 37 Nov 22nd – Toowoon Bay

One Mile Beach caravan park was a lot more empty this morning after all the exits yesterday.   The park itself was good, a little more visually attractive at the entry end as opposed to the end we were in which was minus the palms, bitumen streets and the concrete slabs were all cracked and dodgy. To qualify it, the park good, the facilities were good, and the location fantastic, but the price they charge was the highest we paid and the park was far from the best we have stayed in. Poo Poo Head never made a peep last night and woke [ ... ]

Day 36 Nov 21st – Port Stephens day 3

Still in One Mile Beach, still limited internet, still no photos. An early morning but without the Poo Poo Head waking up during the night, so that’s ok. The beach was a little blowy today and it started out overcast and coolish.   A lot of people cleared out of the caravan park this morning, probably back home to Newcastle and the like for work tomorrow. Barb decided we should get ourselves down to Samurai Beach this morning to see what all the fuss is about. Looking at Samurai from One Mile Beach, each day there are cars scattered lightly along the beach with a [ ... ]

Day 35 Nov 20th – Port Stephens day 2

Still out of good internet range, so still no photos or video.   Sorry A glorious, cloudless and windless day greeted the intrepid travelers this morning. At about 7am Ross ventured down to the beach to pinch himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming … at 7am there were already fifty surfers in the water and there was still plenty of space for us. A quick breakfast and off the Anna Bay and Birubi Point beach less than 10 minutes from where we are at One Mile Beach.   There were camel rides and horse rides through the sand dunes that extended south as far [ ... ]

Day 34 Nov 19th – Port Stephens

Really average internet reception, so no photos until we get to a place with better reception … sorry. Another full night sleep for the Poo Poo Head, but an early morning which wasn’t his fault. First a bloody bird (with gumboots on) was doing a parade drill, walking up and down the camper roof.   Tick, tick.  Tick, tick.   Tick, tick.   Tick, tick, tick, tick.   Tick, tick. Then the heavens opened up at about 6am with a deafening down pour.   Another wet pack up for Ross –  bloody hero. We took the secondary coast road south out of Forster toward Port Stephens.   We bypassed our next [ ... ]

Day 33 Nov 18th – Forster-Tuncurry day 2

It rained though most of the night, Poo Poo Head slept through again and was still sound asleep when Ross went for the run at Poo Poo Heads regular wake up time, 6.30am. Ross’s run took him up to One Mile Beach.   He thought it would be good to run up the large dune he’d seen the day we arrived.   What a dickhea – the run became a walk after about 20 metres in the steep incredibly soft sand, and after about 50 metres the so called run almost became a battle for survival.   By the time he reached the top, [ ... ]

Day 32 Nov 17th – Forster – Tuncurry

The Poo Poo Head slept through again last night and woke up this morning at 6.30am which is a normal start to most days anyway.   It rained all night and Ross made the fatal mistake of drinking a little too late which means a 2.30am early morning jog to the toilet in the rain. Ross hit the double whammy today, a double dose of rainy camp.   Rainy wet pack up this morning and rainy camp setup later in the day. We got an early start and motored out of the caravan park at 8.30am. We initially avoided the Pacific Highway from Port Macquarie [ ... ]

Day 31 Nov 16th – Port Macquarie day 2

Half way … we have as much time behind us as we have in front The Poo Poo Head slept all night and was still asleep at 7am ….. it was like we had been blessed by the gods.   Ross and Barb were so excited that Poo Poo head slept in …. we didn’t. Ross sneaked some bacon into the shopping trolley yesterday.   We NEVER have bacon, we just never buy it.   Aside from the obvious reasons behind not buying bacon, it’s just not something we ever consider buying, although we all love it. When we arrived at Port Macquarie, with the caravan [ ... ]

Day 30 Nov 15th – Port Macquarie

After an aborted early start this morning by Poo Poo Head, we ended up with a reprieve till about 7am which is sadly a late morning sleep in for us lately. Yesterday afternoon apparently a brown snake was spotted in the rocks along the edge of the Killick Creek about 100 metres passed where we were camped.   A small crowd gathered around the spot to stupidly look for it.   Ross said “good, while those idiots give the snake someone to attack, we can rest easy”. The fleeting thought Barb had to take Poo Poo Head to the other side of the creek [ ... ]

Day 29 Nov 14th – Crescent Head day 2

Last night Ross was accompanied in the shower by a tiny bright green frog that just sat without any cares, suctioned to the shower wall. Another very early morning thanks to Poo Poo Head, and Ross took advantage of it and went for a ride over the headland.   The road up was steep, but the ‘goat’ track down the other side was steeper.   The track ran along the top of the vertical rocky drop onto the rocks below … excellent says Ross.   So enjoyable he circled around from the bottom and did it all again. The 267 metre par 4, 3rd hole [ ... ]

Day 28 Nov 13th – Crescent Head

Ross and Barb included Poo Poo Head in an early pizza night for the first time.   Poo Poo Head adores salami so a pepperoni pizza was almost too much specialness for his little gourmet brain to absorb.   Ross and Barb are sure they have created a monster with that decision.   Pizza night was partly a reward for Ross and Barb for putting up with Poo Poo Head all week … not sure what happens now if he is included in pizza night. Up really early with Poo Poo Head this morning after a couple of toilet breaks during the night.   Barb [ ... ]

Day 27 Nov 12th – South West Rocks day 2

Woken up early as usual by the midget alarm clock.   Almost all day long Poo Poo Head is a mummies boy, but he knows better early in the morning as he climbs over Barb and stays clear of her; poking Ross, pulling open his eyelids, driving cars on his face. Not long after Poo Poo Head launched his standard early morning assault, the garbage truck started banging and clanging.   The entire town must have put all their bins outside our camper because the garbage truck seemed to drive around and around us picking up bins for what seemed like 2 hours [ ... ]

Day 26 Nov 11th – South West Rocks

Small issue with the computer and Ross having to do some work put yesterday’s blog off till this morning. Poo Poo Head has named the odd turkey looking birds we have seen everywhere, Turkey George (he wasn’t prompted by anyone George … honestly) It doesn’t matter where we see them, they are all Turkey George There was no rush this morning to get out of Sawtell because we didn’t have very far to go; although as of last night the navigator, Barb, had us bypassing one of our favorite spots South West Rocks and going straight to Hat Head which [ ... ]

Day 25 Nov 10th – Coffs Harbour (Sawtell) day 2

Whilst reading a tourist brochure, Barb found a confectionery factory just to the north of Coffs Harbour, near Sapphire Beach where we were camped a few days ago.   The entry fee fitted our spending allowance for Poo Poo Head for the day ……. $zero. We decided to head up for a look after having a walk around the Coffs Harbour wharf area, which was after a coffee and hot chocolate in Sawtell  which, we were instructed, had to be drank under the giant fig trees. The Poo Poo Head knocks back the hot choc like a veteran Driving through [ ... ]

Day 24 Nov 9th – Coffs Harbour (Sawtell)

Last night we decided to relocate this morning to Sawtell, which is about the same distance to the south of Coffs Harbour as Sapphire Beach is to the north .   Sapphire Beach is a nice park, but although it’s advertised as the closest Coff Harbour caravan park to the beach, it fails to mention that the beach wasn’t a swimming beach. We almost changed our mind this morning and contemplated staying another day.   Last night we organized a BBQ for tonight with another family with the little boy Poo Poo Head befriended, if we decided to stay on. The older couple in [ ... ]

Day 23 Nov 8th – Coffs Harbour (Sapphire Beach)

Another departure morning in beautiful clear skies and a warm day.   We have a few extra days built into the trip to allow us to add to places we want to stay extra time.   We were tempted to use one of those days in Yamba because we like it here and we missed some time this year due to yesterdays crummy weather. But with some chop in the surf, we decided to keep the free days for more ‘fruitful’ use in super surf and super beach days we are sure are in our future down the track in the other places [ ... ]

Day 22 Nov 7th – Yamba day 2

Although we aren’t replying specifically to comments, we are getting all the comments on the blog and it’s nice to know someone is reading. The Poo Poo Head woke up at 2am and 3am, wanting to get into bed with Ross and Barb. It rained most of the night and the makeshift leak stoppers worked fine.   We woke up to a calm, clear and warm morning. Some more permanent repairs to the leaks this morning should fix those problems. Every time the camper is set up the weather is different and the camper leans at a slightly different [ ... ]

Day 21 Nov 6th – Yamba

We came back from Ballina yesterday afternoon to find a bunch a bogan woman and their shaved head kids had set up their tent across their own site and onto ours as well, and left barely enough room for Ross’s car … further reducing Ross’s fondness for Byron Bay. We woke up this morning to beautiful clear skies and a warm start to the day.   We packed up camp to head south for the short drive to the Bundjalung National Park for a few days in a basic campsite which is on the beach, but without power or water.   Just after [ ... ]

Day 20 Nov 5th – Byron Bay day 2

Barb went for a walk yesterday afternoon up past the lighthouse and back to town via a dedicated walking/scenic pathway.   When she got back she was worn out and suggested it would be a good run for Ross for this morning.   The views were fantastic she said; the hills were steep she said; it would be good for Ross she said. Ross took Barb’s advice.   He was up at 6am, filled his new water back pack and loaded his mp3 player and camera (for the views) and he was off.   Mp3 player stopped twice and had to be restarted.   The new [ ... ]
