Katie

How rude …… we forgot to formally introduce Katie, our trusted companion.

Home day 1

The last trip post ……. we’re home. But we started planning the next trip before we got out of the car.

Beechworth day 2

Another miracle this morning … Poo Poo Head again slept in till 7.30am. Its only taken 5 weeks for him to get into holiday relaxation mode.   Possibly helped along cool nights, and darker skies and later sunrises lighting up the camper. Good start to the morning with Ross off to the mountain bike park where he spent a couple of hours zooming around.   There was nobody else to be seen and he had the place all to himself.   Its a huge area of state park, and is posted throughout with generally well marked out tracks catering for the different [ ... ]

Beechworth

Left Gundagai this morning after a history making sleep in the the Poo Poo Head.   In an unprecedented event of events, Poo Poo Head slept in until about 7.30am. The drive was relatively short today and with the bonus of a few days in Beechworth we weren’t in any rush. I had a brief chat to the German tourists that turned up late ;ast night in a rental motor home.   They’d flown into Cairns and were a little shocked by the heat and humidity.   They then flew to Sydney and were surprised by the time it took (3 Hours) to fly what [ ... ]

Gundagai

Rain on and off all night last night … and another thing we aren’t used to, it was quite cold.   The night before, in Nelson Bay,  we had all the canvass open, all night long, to let in a breeze.   Last night we were all rugged up hiding from the rain and cold in the camper ….. and we had the heater on this morning before we left. Ross got up during the night as he heard a clicking sound that was a little too disconcerting to ignore.   All seemed to be ok, but he found out what was causing it [ ... ]

North Narrabeen

Left the warmth of Nelson Bay for Sydney northern beaches. The original idea was to spend a few days on the northern beaches, but the weather looks like it’s against us as we head south. The plan now is Narrabeen will be the first of two overnight stops with a couple of reasonably big days driving to get some kilometres behind us that will allow a few days in Beechworth out of Wangarratta before the final leg to home. Ross is happy, there is a fantastic mountain bike park in Beechworth; and Poo Poo Head should be happy, there’s the [ ... ]

Nelson Bay day 2

All the Google Earth links we have posted will save themselves where they are opened in Google Earth. If you open the Nelson Bay Google Earth link posted yesterday and zoom out, you should be able to see the relatively short distance between where we are now in Nelson Bay, and where we were on the other side of the bay at Mungo Brush, Myall Lakes National Park a couple of weeks back. Very warm and very still night last night. A brief light drizzle manage to up the humidity late afternoon. We had all [ ... ]

Nelson Bay day 1

All up early this morning and off to Nelson Bay at Port Stephens.   Barb read the travel brochures and has been sucked in by what she’s read.   Advertising works very well here.   350 km today and about 3.5 to 4 hours in the car, which is a big one for Poo Poo Head. Before we left South West Rocks Ross spotted one of our neighbours camped in a old 16 ft Viscount Aerolite.   That was the caravan that Ross’s close friend Darren had that convinced Ross many years ago to sell his beloved tent and upgrade to his camper trailer.   They [ ... ]

South West Rocks ….. again day 2

Ross bakes some mini muffins whilst we were holed up in the camper yesterday in the wind storm.   The muffin smell through the camper was a bit special.   Once cooked, they were immediately handed over to the onboard muffin critic for his review …………………. “had better, but they’ll do” We battened down last night, the wind was absolutely shocking and we had zero protection from it.   Ross closed the rear bed and we put Poo Poo Head on the floor on the couch cushion.   Ross lowered the roof to reduce the constant flapping.   Ross tied down the front bed’s fibreglass [ ... ]

South West Rocks … again

We decided late last night to come south along the coast to Sydney and then re-assess from there as to whether we head down the Hume via Canberra (Barb has never visited our nations capital city) or see if we have enough time to continue along the coast.   Although we didn’t need to toss a coin, a few drinky poo’s must have helped.   The recent heat and fires helped in the decision. Our first stop after Yamba on the road south to our little house just happened to be the new replacement for the bestest most favourite place in the cosmos [ ... ]

Yamba day 2

Here’s where we are in Fantastic Yamba Started the day with a little bit of a sleep in. Woo Hoo.   Ross wandered off early for his morning coffee fix.   He checked out the beaches and past this building on the way to the beach with a sign the restaurant ….. the place looked like a death trap.   Later in the evening we could see the tables were set and the restaurant sign was lit up. The red arrow in the pic attached to the tree points down a dodgy rotten ramp that’s signed, “fresh Seafood” …. But there’s nothing at the [ ... ]

Yamba day 1

Our first real rain last night last before leaving Tallebudgera this morning. It rained most of the night with a few heavy showers at times. We have only experienced Victorian rain that always comes with the cold. Bit different up north where the rain comes with the heat. Being in a part canvass camper, we cant leave the canvass open in rain without getting wet. Even though it was hot and sticky, our ventilation was limited. Early start for the 2 ½ hour trip south the Yamba. With the [ ... ]

Gold Coast day 4

Today is Ross’s sister in laws surprise birthday where all the family have migrated to Surfers Paradise to surprise Belinda for her 50th birthday We all met outside the Peninsula Resort and Ross’s brother met us to put our car in the underground carpark. We all went upstairs together and burst into the apartment. Belinda was a blubbering mess, as was most everyone else. She had not a inkling of an idea, even after all the slip ups along the way. After lunch we all headed up the Crown Towers Resort pool for a swim. The pool [ ... ]

Gold Coast day 3

Surprise, surprise, surprise ….. another 5am start to the day. Another warm night with the canvass open. It’s a great way to sleep, the down side being early wake ups due to the morning light. Barb did the noble sacrifice and with her eyes still shut wandered to the other end of the camper for a few hours more sleep in Poo Poo Heads bed, leaving Poo Poo Head to poke, prod and kick me into submission. After her EXTRA 2 hours sleep, she had the nerve to whinge about how hard Poo Poo [ ... ]

Gold Coast day 2

Just as expected …… Poo Poo Head up at 5am. Because it was a warm a muggy night and we had all the canvass open, so of course as soon as the sun came up way before 5am, the camper was light up like a Elvis concert. Poo Poo Head waddled from his side of the camper ours just as does every morning. Barb checked her watch ….. holly snapping duck poo batman ….. 5am, and Poo Poo Head was firing on all cyclinders, had a big cheesy grin and eyes like dinner plates ready to seize [ ... ]

Gold Coast day 1

Up early for the long drive to Byron Bay. Packed up and on the road with a full tank of diesel and large flat white take-away by 8am. Coffs Harbour is only short drive north from Nambucca Heads. We made the obligatory stop at the Big Banana to get our north bound passports stamped, and our recognized right of passage north ……….. a frozen choc coated banana on a stick. A true breakfast of champions. For our resident banana worshiper, Ross, a passing that cannot go without paying homage. With [ ... ]

Nambucca Heads day 2

Beautiful start to the day today, the sun was shinning, no wind and a bit of a sleep in to boot. Ross went to bed with clothes placed in military precision position to enable rapid deployment in case of indigenous activity. Unfortunately he forgot to take into account he sleeps like he’s dead, and wouldnt wake up if the thieves took his pillow from under him. We were awoken at 4am by Optus txt message to Barbs phone confirming her recharge quite a few days ago in Seal Rocks. The bewitching hour, the magical 4am. [ ... ]

Nambucca Heads

That fateful day has arrived. A short drive from South West Rocks to Nambucca Heads which was to Poo Poo Heads delight. We drove into town and straight to the White Albatross caravan park which is a little out of town but on the rockwall breakwater entrance to the Nambucca River. He entrance is wide, rough and running like Linford Christie. The caravan park has an enormous tidal lagoon which would be football oval in size. Like Port Macquarie it is encouraged to paint the rock wall. The sites at the [ ... ]

Hi from Barb

Well, what can I say…I’m back!   About 7 years ago, Ross, Ashleigh, Ben and I, came here as part of a 3 week venture up the East Coast of NSW. I fell in love with the place and have sung its praises ever since. We arrived today, and after sighting the familiar views of the infamous breakwall, exposed sandbanks of a lowering tide opposite the park and the tidal lagoon adjacent to the park we originally stayed in and now choose to stay in again, we duck up to the main drag and the first thing that strikes me are a [ ... ]

South West Rocks day 2

Very early morning this morning ….. thanks Poo Poo Head. It was quite muggy all night, and we had the canvass open, so when Poo Poo Head got up, I just presumed it was a reasonable hour because it was light in the camper. Barb isnt complaining, Poo Poo Head has slept through almost every night we have been away. Barb migrated across the camper into Poo Poo Heads bed for a little extra sleep time …. Ha …. Poo Poo Head just followed, so it Ross that by default got the quiet time. We met the giant [ ... ]
