Beechworth day 2

Another miracle this morning … Poo Poo Head again slept in till 7.30am. Its only taken 5 weeks for him to get into holiday relaxation mode.   Possibly helped along cool nights, and darker skies and later sunrises lighting up the camper.

Good start to the morning with Ross off to the mountain bike park where he spent a couple of hours zooming around.   There was nobody else to be seen and he had the place all to himself.   Its a huge area of state park, and is posted throughout with generally well marked out tracks catering for the different styles of riding.   Any of the intersecting tracks are marked out with warning signs on the approach.

The entry signs were a little ominous.

…… especially this one !!!!!!!

The park caters for all types of mountain bike riding from cross country, to jumping, to extreme downhill.   Its a type of riding Ross hasn’t done any off in the past and after a couple of hours it was easy to see why the warning signs were there.   Some of the tracks were steep downhill rock (boulder) beds with the odd log thrown in just to further tip the balance.

Sharp blind cut backs around large trees, leading into steep descents to rickety narrow timber bridges over running creeks … and always the muscle burning climbs, still over rocks and logs and sharp turns.

It might not look like it, but this is a track.

Descisions, descisions …… it was a gamble as to what the sign actually meant.   Is “more difficult” a general reference or a specific reference to “advanced” written above it.   Thinking the black diamonds and blue squares may related to snow slopes, turns out the blue “more difficult” was the wise choice.   Ross had a look down the “advanced” and sat at the top just shaking his head.

After a few hours and a few spills, he rode back to town just in time for another visit to the Beechworth Bakery.

With the value in the town itself and the general area, visiting the mountain bike park was well worth the trip to Beechworth, and will guarantee a return visit.

A quick drive around the Historic Drive reveal not a lot, but it did lead us back to the Beechworth Bakery one more time.

On return to the caravan park a game of mini putt putt was the order of the afternoon.   It pitted The Tiger Poo Poo Head against The Shark Andolfi, both players at the absolute top of their game.   The game was reduced to a tense playoff on one of the easiest holes on the course ……………

We noticed this brass plate attached to a rock acknowledging the commitment of the Shire’s Mr Carter for his services in the construction of the pool.

The only issue ……….. there is no pool

We know 1961 is a long time ago, but if they could go to all the effort to remove a pool (assuming one was there), they could have thrown that brass plate away with it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As hard as Ross searched throughout Beechworth, (and he looked EVERYWHERE) he couldn’t find any CS Cowboy shots for this evenings entertainment ……… looks like we’ll be watching TV.
