Day 60 Dec 15th – Philip Island day 5

Ross’s Birthday plus 2 The day started late … usually because it’s overcast and stays dark in the Poo Poo Heads bed. We woke up to a grey and cool morning with a forecast of wind and rain.   Ross packed away the annex before the rain.   Whilst the annex is dry, it saves a drying job when we get home.   We also lost our ‘en-suite’ behind the annex, and the porta potti was packed away. We headed into town for Ross to have a look at some surfboards at Island Surfboards.   After meeting the most confusing and contradictory surfboard seller Ross walked off [ ... ]

Day 59 Dec 14th – Philip Island day 4

Ross’s Birthday plus 1 A glorious day without a single cloud in the sky and without a breath of wind. We head down to Smiths Beach in the hope of getting in one last surf before the trip draws to a close.    The waves were small with plenty of people on the beach …. But the coolish breeze blowing across the beach and the arctic cold water put a dent in the surf plans. A wander at Berry’s Beach and Cat Bay on the on the way back to town and the caravan park and we spent the afternoon in the pool with [ ... ]

Day 58 Dec 13th – Philip Island day 3

Ross’s birthday – woo hoo. An early morning wake up call courtesy of the turd family opposite who though it a good idea to break camp in their giant rental motor home at 5.00am.   For 30 minutes, they sounded like they were loading 40 boxes of packaged Arsehole, and dancing around in wooden clogs. Then they thought it was a good idea to warm up the diesel motor home and leave it idling whilst they finished making an arse of themselves with other packing. Ross got a chocy bar and a surf book, and surprise bacon and egg breakfast to start what was [ ... ]

Day 57 Dec 12th – Philip Island day 2

Last night after Poo Poo Head had had his dinner and was in bed,  Ross and Barb, equally excited, were eagerly awaiting 7.30pm and the start to Anne of Green Gables 2, the exciting and apparently must see sequel to Anne of Green Gables (the original). Nothing was going to interrupt the movie … except the bloody storm that blew in, and what a storm it was.   Lightning, thunder and torrential rain, along with a howling wind. The giant gum trees over the camper were swaying in circles with slabs of bark flying off the trees and bouncing of the camper ( [ ... ]

Day 55/56 Dec 10th/11th – Philip Island

We arrived at home just after lunch yesterday, and Barb was in the garden within 30 minutes weeding and tidying up. A few bits from Bunnings and the necessary repairs were completed to the camper.   We unloaded all the goodies we didn’t need to cart to Philip Island, such as the generator, fuel cans, water cans, portable shower unit and a few other things. Then in went the annex for its maiden voyage, and first erection at Philip Island. Both Ross and Barb then made separate but equally excited trips to the new shopping centre and supermarket up the road from home that [ ... ]

Day 54 Dec 9th – Lakes Entrance

A little rain over night but nothing significant.   The predicted damaging rains and damaging winds must have decided to have a battle to the death elsewhere and failed to appear. I don’t know why we even bother looking at the weather channel, they have got absolutely not a dot of an idea.   It is extraordinary that a whole cable TV channel could be dedicated to reporting weather, with these knuckleheads constantly banging on 24hrs a day yet never ever getting it right. We stupidly continue to use their advice to plan, and continually ask ourselves why we bother.   This morning we planned [ ... ]

Day 53 Dec 8th – Lakes Entrance

We reluctantly left Merimbula and headed south this morning.   The weather forecast was deteriorating in Merimbula and after a couple of bad days in East Gippsland, the weekend was forecast to be hot and dry.   Those couple of bad days may be a little underestimated as those bad days have turned into severe weather warnings.   Doh. There has been a family with 4 kids in a wind up camper in the caravan park at Merimbula for a few days.   One of the kids is sleeping in a swag at the back of the camper and we couldn’t help but feel for [ ... ]

Day 52 Dec 7th – Merimbula day 7

Another night of rain but another mild, if not sunny day. The heavens opened up again during the night and the wind popped it’s little head up as well.   There was a couple of huge downpours which you can’t help but be woken up by.   Ross generally sleeps like a corpse, but these downpours wake him up. It was mild today with a virtually no wind but constant cloud cover. When the sun managed to get out from behind the cloud, it had a real kick to it. We were going to take Poo Poo Head to Magic Mountain, a local [ ... ]

Day 51 Dec 6th – Merimbula day 6

Poo Poo Head woke up this morning and coming across to Ross and Barbs bed, was saying, “ …the clock has gone crazy …. the clock has gone crazy” Not having any idea what he was talking, Poo Poo Head explained that the clock on the microwave, which is next and visible from Poo Poo Heads bed was saying 8 instead of 7. It took some creative thinking to establish that it was after 8.ooam and Poo Poo Head had just woken up.   His morning instruction is to stay in his bed and remain quiet until the first number on the microwave [ ... ]

Day 50 Dec 5th – Merimbula day 5

We are extremely lucky that we picked Merimbula out of the blue to head to out of the bad weather up north.   The weather here has been good compared to what other options we have along the NSW coast. The NSW coast in general continues to be subjected to horrible weather yet we have had mild and calm weather here in Merimbula. We are booking one day at a time to avoid inviting the gremlins of booking too many days ahead and getting slammed by bad weather. Ross strolled up to the Cheeky Mango cafe for his morning coffee. Ross and Poo Poo Head [ ... ]

Day 49 Dec 4th – Merimbula day 4

Shadows …. We all know what that means … in order to have shadows, you must have S.U.N.   Woo hoo, and we got it today. It seems like the rain continues up and down the east coast but it seems to be bypassing Merimbula for now. The first stop today was breakfast at the caravan parks residence café bar, the Cheeky Mango.   Raisin toast for Ross and Barb and a bacon and egg roll for the Poo Poo Head along with a shot of morning coffee. After breakfast Poo Poo Head and Ross went for a ride on their bikes and played on [ ... ]

Day 48 Dec 3rd – Merimbula day 3

We woke up to a strange weather phenomenon … there was some patches of blue in the sky.   It was surrounded by grey, but we could see little patches of blue.   We all ran outside like Julie Andrews in A Sound of Music, where we danced across the meadow singing The Hills Are Alive With The Patches of Blue Sky. As if that wasn’t enough to cause happiness overload, not long after breakfast the sun started to fight its way out.   We were almost delirious, and immediately started to make plans to squeeze 2 weeks of outdoor fun and frivolity into [ ... ]

Day 47 Dec 2nd – Merimbula day 2

We had a couple of really heavy down pours during the night, and woke up to more drizzle. There were a few breaks in the weather during the morning where we got up to the park and jumping pillow. Although the weather is crap, this caravan park in Merimbula is great and in a great position, overlooking the surf beach and the Pacific Ocean. Barb made an appointment with a Merimbula Physio for her neck this morning and yesterday Ross had organized to get his car serviced at the Eden Nissan dealership.   Whilst Barb was at the Physio, Ross and Poo [ ... ]

Day 46 Dec 1st – Merimbula

Yes Merimbula, we are in Merimbula.   We thought that the rain and crap weather on the south coast would be better than the rain and crap weather we were having further north. We were right.   The rain and crap weather in Merimbula is fantastic and we’re so glad we’re here in it. There isn’t much in the way of photos and video because the weather has limited them. There is only so many pictures you can take of rain, but here’s a picture of some rain Lucky for us today is the first day of summer.   Imagine how [ ... ]

Day 45 Nov 30th – Ulladulla day 2

Rain …. Rain … Rain.   All afternoon yesterday and all night last night and all morning.   Forecast is for .. guess what … more rain. It was cold last night and cold this morning too.   A bit of a culture shock, although Ross still refuses to wear shoes.   When we went into town today he was slipping and sliding all over the place, but he wont give in. Checked the forecast to weigh up our options.   Rain with some falling wet stuff, followed by patches of moisture and possibly some rain’iness.   Hmmmmm.   The scope of the forecasts we checked became wider and [ ... ]

Day 44 Nov 29th – Ulladulla

The only difference between yesterday and today is when we (read Ross) packed up in the rain this morning, the rain was heavier but there wasn’t anyone around to watch and laugh. A couple of our distant neighbours were also packing up this morning, one caravan, one pop-top caravan and one in a series of tents.   The caravan guy got out of it very cheaply; the pop-top caravan guy was wandering around in the rain for what we’re sure for him felt like an eternity; the tent people rolled everything up threw in the back of the car [ ... ]

Day 43 Nov 28th – Kiama day 2

Well, what can we say.   Rain, rain, go away please come back another day (or stay in Melbourne where it belongs) Ross hasn’t put a pair of shoes on in 6 weeks, and even then can be bothered looking for his thongs only half the time.   His already unattractive feet look like lizard feet.   Wet weather is testing his personal no shoe protest. Ross is doing the blog today and it’s only 4pm.   With the continued drizzle, it’s unlikely anything spectacular will happen in what’s left of the day. Poo Poo Head made a new mate down the road a little and was [ ... ]

Day 42 Nov 27th – Kiama

Barb went to bed with a bit of a sore neck and woke during the night in agony.   She dropped a couple of Ross’s Codeine Fortes early in the morning which knocked her out. She woke up in just as much pain and spent most of the time while Ross packed up searching for a Physio …. on a Saturday.   Just like Melbourne the medical system only deals with Monday to Friday illness – get sick or injured on the weekend at double your own peril. We left Sydney and with all the conversations around trying to find a Physio and where [ ... ]

Day 41 Nov 26th – Lane Cove NP day 2

Ross was up early for a ride.   With 400 hectares of National Park right on his door step, the opportunity was apparently not to be missed. The camp ground is in a perfect position on the Lane Cove National Park, with a train station with 10 minutes walk and Sydney city only 10 km away, and the only noise in the camp ground is nature. Poo Poo Head needed his stitches out today which meant he was able to get submerged again.   We found one of the last bulk billing clinics in Sydney not too far from the [ ... ]

Day 40 Nov 25th – Lane Cove NP (Sydney)

Woke up this morning ready for another day enjoying the offerings of Umina Beach.   Barb then threw a spanner in the planning with her bomb shell desire to spend a day at Bondi Beach, the setting for a favorite TV show, Bondi Rescue. We’ve seen plenty of ducks in caravan parks and they can wander quite close as they look for free handouts, but not too often are they completely happy to eat out of your hand.   At one point one looked like he was going to hope in the camper. Ross said if we are going to Bondi, there is no [ ... ]
