QLD Day 12

Once again, a holiday has come to an end Early morning start to head south across the Mexican border.   Good thing for us before we left QLD it started out cold and wet, and the Melbourne forecast was warm and sunny … ha Steve, clinging to the last moments of the holiday possibly a little too hard, was on the grog on board the plane at 9.30am

QLD Day 11

Another great day in the sun that started with coffee in Cavill Avenue and a walk along the beach. A view of Surfers that will be forever changed when the massive towers of the Hilton and Soul resorts are completed. Nissan Navara’s are such an amazing all round fantastic vehicle, they are the most obvious, most valuable vehicle of choice for the hero’s of the surf, and all round good people of Surf Life Saving Australia in their mission to keep our beaches safe. Keep up the good work …. Nissan This is the corner in Broadbeach that claimed Ross on his bike [ ... ]

QLD Day 10

Friday was a little breezy and cool, so it was a bit of a non eventful day.   Barb, Ross and Poo Poo Head went for a long walk along the beach to the south, something we have never done before.   Dotted along the beach front between the high-rises are a few houses with absolute beach frontage, and some of them are pretty old as well.   We spoke about how good it would be if mysterious, old, unknown uncle Jethro Mortimer Fraser passed on and left his Surfer Paradise beach front  house to his nephew, Ross, in his will. Friday night is [ ... ]

QLD Day 9

Today was Dreamworld day.   The Dreamworld rules forbid bringing food and drink into the theme park, but the annexed White Water World allows family picnics.   Like a well trained Navy Seal team we plotted on how to get into Dreamworld with our booty of sandwiches, snacks and drink bottles. Our passes allowed access between Dreamworld proper and White Water World so we dodged the long lines at the Dreamworld entrance, headed into White Water World via virtually an empty queue and smuggled our picnic bag across the border into Dreamworld like Mexicans sneaking into the USA. We initially headed into the Imax [ ... ]

QLD Days 7 and 8

Monday night a storm blanketed the Gold Coast with constant wind and rain.   The wind dropped off but the rain continued for most of Tuesday.   We spent a few hours wandering around the Pacific Fair shopping complex where Poo Poo Head almost perfectly mastered chopsticks.   He held one in each hand and it looked  pretty good to us. We came across a showcase for the new Samsung 3D LED televisions.   Steve and Ross stood in line and took their turn in the display booth.   Although all conceded it was pretty impressive, Steve loved it but Ross didn’t. The bad weather was originally [ ... ]

Steve’s new favourite song

Click here to hear Steve’s new very favourite song Steve’s Favourite Song The song is one of the 4 continually played in rotation at the Ripley’s museum as we walk past 2 or 3 times a day.   Ross’s constant humming and singing has cemented the tune in Steve’s head ….. much to Steve’s disgust. Be warned though … listen with caution.   Once heard, the tune cannot be un- heard and it will refuse to leave your head.

QLD Day 6

It would be amiss not to show a picture of Poo Poo Head on his daily pilgrimage to the Ripley’s museum in Surfers Paradise. He doesnt like to go in, because he’s not 100% sure the robotic dummies arent real people. Surfers Paradise has an ongoing music and art fringe festival in May and June. Last night there was a live band on the beach followed by fireworks. After wards we all partook in a Gourmet Muffin Cupcake, and Poo Poo Head seemed to enjoy his. Steve had a characterture done by a footpath vendor after [ ... ]

QLD Day 5

Ross’s return to training has well and truly kicked off with another run this morning; Barb’s training as stalled and Steve’s hasn’t left the showroom yet. A warm day on the beach with Poo Poo Head tempting fate by insisting he sit in the shallows and take the waves head on all by himself.   His bravado took a beating when he ended up arse in the air.   He now requires at least one of his support team close at hand. Ross got dunked from behind filming Poo Poo Head Steve would have rather had the new friend on the left [ ... ]

QLD Day 4

Bit of a sleep in this morning; Poo Poo Head didn’t get up till after 7am this morning. We went for our usual morning lap around the shops, cafes and eateries. This afternoon we went for a trip on the Adventure Duck amphibious bus/boat which drives from Surfers Paradise to the Broadwater and then drive down the boat ramp into the water and bobs about the broadwater from the millionaire house in the canals to Sea World on The Spit.   Poo Poo Head got to drive the Duck again Poo Poo Head has become obsessed with the Dracula’s shop and the Ripleys Believe [ ... ]

QLD Day 3

Steve found the Baskin Robbins store last night.   Poo Poo Head was also pretty happy with Steve’s discovery. (As was obviously Barb to) This lucky old fellow was fortunate enough to find a vacant seat all to himself that he could use to relax and read his book.   ( the tape engulfing him reads “CAUTION WET PAINT”)   Maybe the book is Martha Gardnener’s, How to Remove Paint From Your Pants; or maybe he’s stuck and just reading until he’s rescued. Poo Poo Head is blessed wherever he goes, and once again found a digger to watch Rougher day on the beach [ ... ]

QLD Day 2

Not much of a sleep in this morning.   The sun and garbage trucks rise about 5.30am and once the Prince of Poo Poo Land is awake, all his kingdom are required to follow suit. A quick trip to the shops for an early morning stock up on cheap thongs and straw hats, then a morning in the surf.   One body surf for Ross reminded him of the shoulder surgery he had not so long ago … no more surfing for him!!! Steve packed a pair of board shorts ‘acquired’ from the land of the giants and had to make [ ... ]

QLD Day 1

Left early for the airport for no real reason.   That early start gave Ross some extra time to miss the first Tullamarine turn off over the Bolte Bridge and take the scenic route over the Westgate Bridge. Got to the terminal and the line to Jetstar was so long it went past Qantas, International and almost to the Virgin Blue terminal at the other end of the airport. We sat almost dead centre of the plane and when the food trolleys both met in the middle … right next to us … they had both sold out of any over priced food [ ... ]
