Day 7

Not a lot to report today and no photos either.   The promised forecast of a beautiful repeat of yesterdays weather was slightly misleading. It was overcast, windy and cold.    Whilst it didn’t rain and the wind wasn’t quite as bad as Thursday it was really cold; it wasn’t a great day.   When Ross dropped Poo Poo Head at Snow School, a ski instructor mentioned that during his time in Tahoe in the USA, on a day like today the entire mountain would simply be empty.   No one ventures onto or out in when the conditions are anything like today.   He added [ ... ]

Day 6

We woke up to silence – no rain, and the forecast was good.   As we started the drive up the mountain Barb and Ross talked about whether to put Poo Poo Head into Snow School again today.   Although Ross and Barb got 3 hours of Poo Poo Head free ski time, it was what was turning out to be very expensive child care because the tuition results were zero; in fact we think maybe he is doing less now than when he started. Every afternoon Poo Poo Head was picked up, his ski ability remained at a constant level of zero.   [ ... ]

Day 5

Looking forward to a day back on the mountain, although we again woke to rain which has it raining constantly for 3 days.   The snow report was snow above 1300 metres yesterday and today with strong winds possible today. We were organized early and headed out in the rain with dry gear.   Poo Poo Head was happy enough about Snow School so it looked like the makings of a good day.   We were amazed at how low down the mountain the snow had fallen over Wednesday and Wednesday night.   As we climbed the mountain, the rain turned to snow and the [ ... ]

Day 4

Not  much to report today.   We had a rest day today partly because of the forecast blizzard conditions on the mountain and partly because our gear was all completely soaked through from the rain on Tuesday. It literally hasn’t stopped raining for 2 days straight. Whilst most of that has been snow above 1300 metres, it’s certainly not the sun we want. Just to add some excitement to the holiday, the electric wall heater that wasn’t very effective is slightly less effective now since it stopped working all together this morning. Whilst the wood heater heats up the [ ... ]

Day 3

Woke up a couple of times during the night and each time it was raining.   The alarm went off at 7.00am and it was still raining.   Ross and Barb just looked at each other and no-one said “forget it” so we dragged ourselves out of bed and headed for the laptop to check the weather and snow report. The report wasn’t bad at all.   No snow, no rain, bit of wind and that’s about it.   Barb made the picnic lunch and we packed up for the trip up the mountain. It rained continually all the way up the mountain.   It had snowed [ ... ]

Day 2

It was freezing here last night. An electric heater in the living room barely takes the edge off the cold. The rest of the house, including the bedrooms, bathroom and toilet have no heating at all. The blow heater Ross brought up was great in Poo Poo Head’s bedroom. The build up to a toilet stop was like anticipating your own execution. Ross packed up the combustion wood heater last before we went to bed. He used to have wood heating in a previous home and is well versed in it. This [ ... ]

Day 1

The planned departure time blew out as normal, but it didn’t matter too much because the house wasn’t available until 2.30 pm anyway. We couldn’t believe how much crap we had to park into the car. A week in the snow took twice as much room in the car than 2 months traveling up and down the east coast. The back of the ute was chocka block and Poo Poo Head was completely surrounded. After a few stops for coffees, piddles and playgrounds we made it to Mt Beauty around 1.30pm.    On the drive over [ ... ]
