Day 7

Not a lot to report today and no photos either.   The promised forecast of a beautiful repeat of yesterdays weather was slightly misleading.

It was overcast, windy and cold.    Whilst it didn’t rain and the wind wasn’t quite as bad as Thursday it was really cold; it wasn’t a great day.   When Ross dropped Poo Poo Head at Snow School, a ski instructor mentioned that during his time in Tahoe in the USA, on a day like today the entire mountain would simply be empty.   No one ventures onto or out in when the conditions are anything like today.   He added we Aussies are a tough breed and don’t let crappy weather get in our way. The difference is Tahoe doesn’t take it’s visitors 5 hours drive to reach.

The snow was hard packed and the weekend influx of people created an instant crowd everywhere we turned.

Barb suffered with really cold hands and feet today, and there is little worse than the throbbing pain that prolonged cold causes.   The info screen in the on mountain restaurant had the temperature as neg 3.0 without the added wind chill from the 30+ kmh winds.

The cold and wind on the chair lift was very testing.   Ross was rugged up like Douglas Mawson on his Antarctic expedition, his face completely covered with just goggles visible, but some guys (mostly young extra cool snowboarding cats) were barely dressed, some didn’t even have gloves on  ………. Idiots.

It was so cold Ross refused to remove his gloves to take a single photo.

The fog was a thick as soup and made visibility difficult.   The lack of contrast in overcast weather and tinted ski goggles makes the ground look flat.   The dips, holes, lumps and bumps and like braille …. You have to feel them to find them.

Ross and Barb spent a little more time indoors today, before Poo Poo Head was picked up.

After lunch the Poo Poo Head was collected and Ross and Bab spent the rest of the afternoon following him around the resort.   Again he tackled the intermediate runs like a little old man who had been skiing all his life.   Ross and Barb agreed even though they will be eating only on alternate days, and meals of rice and Coles sausages for the next six months, the value in Poo Poo Head skiing was tantalizingly close to almost worth it.

Although Poo Poo Head’s progress card appears to missing the last ‘tick’ … we have video evidence that he can in fact stop on command.

Last post.   The ski trip is all but over; just some washing and a good nights sleep and we head home tomorrow morning.
