Day 46 Dec 1st – Merimbula

Yes Merimbula, we are in Merimbula.   We thought that the rain and crap weather on the south coast would be better than the rain and crap weather we were having further north.

We were right.   The rain and crap weather in Merimbula is fantastic and we’re so glad we’re here in it. There isn’t much in the way of photos and video because the weather has limited them. There is only so many pictures you can take of rain, but here’s a picture of some rain

Lucky for us today is the first day of summer.   Imagine how crappy the weather would be if it wasn’t summer.

We spoke too loud when we (jokingly) threatened to head to Perth.   The weather monkey must have heard and has turned on the rain in Adelaide just to shit us off on the trip over.   Ha.   We were never actually going to Perth so take that weather monkey.   (sorry Adelaide)

Barb taught Poo Poo Head to play Chinese Checkers today.   He is getting good at it too.

We bought a pack of Strip Uno, although Barb keeps insisting it’s just normal Uno.   It doesn’t say on the box anywhere that it isn’t Strip Uno.   Unfortunately the reason for the cheap $2.00 Uno price tag was revealed when Barb opened it and there weren’t any rules, and we all suddenly realized no-one remembers the bloody rules.

The trusty internet provided some rules which as a bonus, seems to fit the description of the cards we bought.

The caravan park in Merimbula is the same place Ross and Barb took Ross’s kids to almost 10 years ago.  That was a trip to remember.   The plan was to pick up Barb from work at 10pm and leave directly, driving through the night with the kids sleeping, what a great idea ….. what a dickhead Ross is … what was he thinking.

Where we are in Merimbula

Ross awake and driving all night and kids sleeping all night, great for the kids, abysmal for Ross – excellent.    Ross exhausted in the morning with eyes like bruised fruit and kids fresh as buttons, and firing on all cylinders.   Everything combined to provide for a fun filled first few days.

Add in the miscalculation and early arrival into Merimbula at 6.00am and having to wait 2 hours for the caravan park office to open.   Ross pouring coffee down his neck to stay awake at the only place open … McDonalds and a very valuable lesson was learned … don’t go on holiday with kids and stay clear of Merimbula, it’s just a recipe for disaster

The caravan park is completely different now with a lot of money being spent to create a great caravan park in a terrific location in a nice town.

Last time we camped on the headland with unobstructed views overlooking the sea, where we sat eating breakfast watching whales breaching well within eyesight.   This time the park has luxury cabins and en-suite sites on the headland.   There’s now a huge heated resort pool, games room, café bar restaurant and an “every day” kids corner (that’s EVERYDAY, not just the school holidays)

The caravan park was good before because of its location and its simplicity.   It’s good now because of the same location and the new resort style facilities.

The rain is forecast to continue but there is plenty to do in Merimbula for a few days regardless of weather.   Ross is off to Eden tomorrow, about 30 minutes south, to get the car serviced at the local Nissan dealer there.

The rain here in Merimbula is light and continuous but at least, at present, it is mild and there is no wind.

According to Foxtel weather channel there was apparently only one person on Bondi Beach today, the first day of summer.
