Day 42 Nov 27th – Kiama

Barb went to bed with a bit of a sore neck and woke during the night in agony.   She dropped a couple of Ross’s Codeine Fortes early in the morning which knocked her out.

She woke up in just as much pain and spent most of the time while Ross packed up searching for a Physio …. on a Saturday.   Just like Melbourne the medical system only deals with Monday to Friday illness – get sick or injured on the weekend at double your own peril.

We left Sydney and with all the conversations around trying to find a Physio and where we were heading to, we missed a few turns.   With all opportunities to avoid tollways expended, Katie turned us onto the M5 motorway.   We drove an entire 2 kilometres before we reached a toll booth between us and the exit ramp.

We stopped and threw some coins into the hopper.   The screen read $3.80 and after $4.00 was thrown in, the screen read $4.80.   Ross cracked it and pushed the help button on the terminal.   A woman answered and explained the toll was $8.60 for that 2 kilometres …. Ross was almost speechless, and launched into a monologue and gave her a mouthful before driving through in disgust.

Barb found a Physio open in Wollongong, the 10th one she tried, so we headed there.   The drive into Wollongong from the north is pretty impressive.   The Highway climbs high into the hills and winds steeply down into Wollongong providing some great views.

To limit the use of the loud rattling of the big trucks exhaust brakes, Wollongong has a sound activated camera on the steep decline into the city.   Presumably any truck using their exhaust brake will activate the camera and a fine.

Katie led us straight to the Physio in an outer city industrial area.   Ross and Poo Poo Head dropped Barb at the physio and found a playground in a primary school.   We headed back to the Physio and set up camp in the street.   Ross and Poo Poo Head got into the camper, made a cuppa and sat back and started watching Transformers on the TV.

Barb emerged better than when she went in and after a dose of Nurofen Plus, better still.   Barb was impressed with the Physio.

We headed to the original destination of Gerringong south of Kiama and the wind almost blew the camper off the car.   We then headed to Gerroa to find the small congested camp ground far too claustrophobic and headed back to Kiama to a caravan park just out of town.   The forecast is wind and storms and this caravan park has a resort pool and has a good play ground for the Poo Poo Head.

It’s a shame you have to be dead to get into the Gerringong cemetery …. The view is to die for.

The heavy chop was crashing over the Gerringong rock pool on the southern headland.

There are kids everywhere here in Easts Beach caravan park, they are like ants.   We presume the people are weekenders from Wollongong and the park will thin out tomorrow.

Where we are in Kiama

We decided on a BBQ tonight and when Ross went to the park BBQ’s they were surrounded by so many people he decided to set up his own and cook at the camper.   It was such a novelty,  it was like going to the theatre.

Ross used some strange plastic looking BBQ liner his parents gave him years ago.   The liner sits on top of the hotplate and is apparently generally for use on public BBQs.   After he’d finished cooking there was not one drop of grease or fat on the BBQ itself, and we were all still alive after eating the food cooked on the strange plastic sheet.

A successful BBQ, no mess and no-one died … excellent.   And the plastic sheet is reusable – bonus.
