Day 60 Dec 15th – Philip Island day 5

Ross’s Birthday plus 2

The day started late … usually because it’s overcast and stays dark in the Poo Poo Heads bed.

We woke up to a grey and cool morning with a forecast of wind and rain.   Ross packed away the annex before the rain.   Whilst the annex is dry, it saves a drying job when we get home.   We also lost our ‘en-suite’ behind the annex, and the porta potti was packed away.

We headed into town for Ross to have a look at some surfboards at Island Surfboards.   After meeting the most confusing and contradictory surfboard seller Ross walked off with more questions than what he walk into the shop.   The Island boards seemed to have a slightly cheaper average cost than others Ross has looked at, but the guy did little to convince Ross Island was a board to buy.

Ross and Barb are already discussing the next holiday and the one after that and the one after that.    There is Surfers Paradise, Barbs 40th in June (which she keeps saying she’d like to spend overseas!!), the Snow season and another camper trip later in 2011 to organize. Ha…

This trip didn’t go to the original plan, but has been extremely lucky in any regard.   This year’s trip was planned around the fantastic trip (weather wise) last year, and on that trip we were spoilt for choice with constant warm sunny days on end.

This year the whole east of the country has been blasted by much needed rain, and although we missed many of our chosen and some favourite places in an attempt to avoid the worst of the rain, we did end up missing most of the rain.

Hopefully next year the weather will be more stable and we can do it all again.

Although we aren’t home yet, we are close enough.   Here are some trip figures

We have travelled over 6500km,

Averaged $35 per night on accommodation,   (unusually high because weather compromised our Nat Park plans)

Averaged just over 14ltr/100km in fuel, and $1200 on fuel   (Very happy with that)

Since buying the camper 18 months ago, we have spent a total of 120 nights in the camper and travelled over 14000km in total.   And that total isn’t going to stop climbing any time soon.

We had one catastrophe, Poo Poo Heads chin, and no other real issues.   We sprung a couple of leaks which were quickly fixed, we trashed Ross’s bike and scratched the car a bit … and once again with all good intentions, carted camping gear around the country that we never actually used.

And we have also confirmed something we already knew …. we could keep doing this indefinitely, and after 60 days have no desire to strangle each other.   One room, 16 feet of living space and two faces constantly in the other ones face, is fine by us.   More, more, same, same, thanks

We know that there are some readers that have followed us up and down the east coast … and for anyone else that has stopped by, thanks for looking
