The bikes

The first bike was found by Ross; a 2001 Honda XR250r1 …….. in Sale. Not only for sale, but in Sale; coincidence, who knows but a long and risky venture to travel all the way to Sale to view a second hand motor bike.

The bait was that the bike was very keenly priced and came with helmet, boots, body armour, gloves … and a 3 bike trailer. The risk paid off. The bike was in pretty reasonable condition for the farm, started easily, blew no smoke, and made no no scary noises. The gang of buyers met the seller at a paddock outside Sale for a test ride and appraisal.  Rob wouldn’t get on it all, Steve was very unsure and Ross just shat himself and didn’t get out of first gear.   The guy selling it must have had a quiet laugh to himself.

The transaction was completed and we headed back to Cripple Creek for a bit of a play on the bike before heading home.   The original trepidation in riding was soon replaced with bravado, and a little too much bravado considering we didn’t have a helmet or any other protective gear.   The helmet supplied was too small.   25 years of road bike riding for Ross with many varied bikes up to 1100cc, didnt really help with bouncing about on a enduro bike on a farm.

A week later  Steve found a candidate in Belgrave or somewhere up in the hills.   It was a 1999 Kawasaki KLX300r.   It was in need some TLC, but looked great and was also extra keenly priced
