Hi from Barb

Well, what can I say…I’m back!   About 7 years ago, Ross, Ashleigh, Ben and I, came here as part of a 3 week venture up the East Coast of NSW. I fell in love with the place and have sung its praises ever since.

We arrived today, and after sighting the familiar views of the infamous breakwall, exposed sandbanks of a lowering tide opposite the park and the tidal lagoon adjacent to the park we originally stayed in and now choose to stay in again, we duck up to the main drag and the first thing that strikes me are a bunch of drunks off the main strip –  at 11am in the morning mind you.  A sign on a bakery store window, advising its early closure of trading times due to recent violence adds to a bitter taste in my mouth.

Not MY Nambucca!

Later, we are also advised by someone else staying in the park, that there have been thefts at night time, so to make sure we locked up everything (esp. our bikes) and that these seemed to happen at about 4am (what a font of information).  All this did was give me my first sleepless night since we have been away, and my mobile going off at 4.05am this morning, (optus advising that I had won a prize), only spooked me that little bit more!

Despite the unfortunate decline in social standings, Nambucca Heads is still a lovely spot, and YES…I am glad I came back.

We ventured down to an area very close to the park at low tide and had fun fossicking in the rock pools.   I have a thing for sand banks and shallow warm waters and rock pools if they’re around,  I will inevitably find them. Daniel had fun with a crab for a little a little while and it was then, at about 4pm, that we decided to do some fishing.

We grabbed our gear and headed for a section of the breakwall where we navigated the boulders to be in as close a position to the water, so as not to snag the line.  Ross threw his line in and seemed excited when he got a couple of bites (to see if it was worth doing at all). I waited…patiently.

Seems like the fish were biting so then it was my turn.  A downside of having a pre schooler is that we can’t fish at the same time…at least not where the terrain is a short, sharp drop (over rocks) to the turbulent waters below…no matter. Daniel had fun playing with a couple of cars that I just happen to have in the bag.

I was just happy to get a line in!!!

A few bites later…a few eaten worms later…and I got snagged.  Sh*t!  That was quite timely as it was 6.30 and Daniel had eaten us out of every “snack” (see previous “shapes” eating video) that I had in our bag.  That was the end of my “fish” ….but now I have the taste….I will be out again tomorrow…just watch me!

Cheerio, Barbx
