Gold Coast day 3

Surprise, surprise, surprise ….. another 5am start to the day. Another warm night with the canvass open. It’s a great way to sleep, the down side being early wake ups due to the morning light. Barb did the noble sacrifice and with her eyes still shut wandered to the other end of the camper for a few hours more sleep in Poo Poo Heads bed, leaving Poo Poo Head to poke, prod and kick me into submission.

After her EXTRA 2 hours sleep, she had the nerve to whinge about how hard Poo Poo Head’s bed is (we have an innerspring mattress, Poo Poo Head has the original rock hard foam number)

Again Poo Poo Head was pretty quiet and entertained himself until a reasonable hour. Because other kids were riding their scooters Poo Poo Head decided it was a scooter day.  He zoomed up and down the road. At one point 2 little girls asked Poo Poo Head if he could do any tricks ….. you betcha. They were the most pathetic tricks you could imagine, but the girls were mesmerized by the talented Poo Poo Head and his amazing trick scooter. After his matinee show, he retreated into the camper hot both in temperature and in the eyes of his adoring fans.

After breakfast we ventured down to Rainbow Bay beach at Coolangatta for the morning. The surf was abysmal, and the wind relentless. Poo Poo Head played with his ‘beach car’ and was oblivious to the miserable condition of both the beach and his father.

You could possibly imagine the traffic in Coolangatta with a surf carnival, large Sunday market and hot day on the coast. Parking was a premium. We headed into the Rainbow Bay carpark which is very small just for a look, resigned to fact we would probably have to park about 2 kilometres inland and walk to the beach. As we were about to turn and drive out of the tiny carpark, an older guy walked over to the car and asked if we wanted a carpark. He knew parking was premium and was waiting for someone with kid/s to come along before he vacated his spot. Nice guy, he must have been a Victorian.

After a few hours we had Sushi at a Coolangatta Tsunami Sushi Train which is an actual train which Poo Poo Head thought was just terrific. He was so enthralled waiting for the train to come around again and again, he happily ate Ross’s soft shell crab sushi without batting an eye lid …. With Barb pulling horrid faces behind him as Poo Poo Head chomps on a crab feeler.

We headed back to camp after lunch and missed a call from my niece to say they landed (they flew in) and left a message to ring when we got the message to organize a catch up. Ross’s 3 nieces have flown up with Ross’s parents for their mum’s surprise 50th birthday tomorrow. (her birthday isn’t the surprise, just the get together) Ross’s brother and sister in law are already in Surfers and we will catch up with the girls and Ross’s parent tonight for dinner before the birthday surprise tomorrow.

One consolation is that horrendous wind was keeping the temperature down whilst we were at the beach …. Not so much here at the camp. Its hot and we’re sitting in the air conditioned comfort of the camper waiting for Poo Poo Head.

Poo Poo Head sleeps to recharge for tonight whilst Ross sits on the couch staring into space like he is in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. Maybe it will be Ross who has a hissy fit tonight because he’s over tired.

Ross found yet another caravan set up worthy of his honor roll. The caravan itself is a big’un, but this award goes to the annex. It’s annex has an annex of its own. The small attached room of the annex has a dining table inside and comes complete with long tinted side lit mood panels for that special romantic BBQ and thong dinner. (the thongs are for wearing, not eating)

We are off to the pool when Poo Poo Head wakes up until we head up to Surfers to catch up with Ross’s family. The pool area is pretty amazing and one of the best we have experienced, especially for kids.

We met up with Ross’s parents and nieces at the Crown Towers Resort at the opposite end of Surfers Paradise to the Peninsula Resort where Mark and Belinda are staying. On the way through Surfers there were schoolies 3 deep everywhere you looked. There is possible no worse time to be on the Gold Coast than schoolies.
Ross was only going up to Surfers if he could park his car somewhere secure, like the underground resort carpark. Ross dad organized a carpark, and while we were waiting parked in the pickup area outside the main entrance, schoolies were getting closer and closer to Ross’s car. You could feel the tension building inside the car and see Ross’s composure changing by the second. It didn’t help when a full car burst on the entrance to the pickup, thrown of a balcony above. Were parked under the huge entrance awning so it wasn’t an issue.
With the car sleeping snugly in the underground carpark we enjoyed a great meal at the resort Thai restaurant before heading back to the room and then to the Adrenaline Park which has the Bungy, Slingshot, Vomitron Mini Golf and some other amuzments.
Ross two nieces went on the Slingshot but their complete lack fear, lack of swearing and screaming made it a bit of a non-event. We parted company and headed back to camp for the night.
