Nelson Bay day 2

All the Google Earth links we have posted will save themselves where they are opened in Google Earth. If you open the Nelson Bay Google Earth link posted yesterday and zoom out, you should be able to see the relatively short distance between where we are now in Nelson Bay, and where we were on the other side of the bay at Mungo Brush, Myall Lakes National Park a couple of weeks back.

Very warm and very still night last night. A brief light drizzle manage to up the humidity late afternoon. We had all canvass opened, and a street light right out side Ross and Barbs end of the camper helped to light up the inside like daylight. The aircon was great, but we cant leave it on over night because the noise keeps Barb awake.

Barb made the short sighted decision to buy CS Cowboy shots yesterday when she stocked up on her medication at the bottle shop. She thought it would be fun to see Ross a bit ‘drunk’; something she has not seen before. Unfortunately with both Ross and Barb doing shots didn’t kind of work out the way Barb had initially predicted. You see Barb forgot to take into account her own limited capacity for alcohol …. the predictable result is something Ross isnt allowed to mention, but I think you can probably guess.

Ross thought it might have been a opportunity to get Barb to do a nudie run around the outside of the camper …. but that wasn’t to be.

Caravan Park laundries are the usual dumping point for everyones old magazines. Ross found the 4×4 Australia magazines ‘Top 4×4 ute edition’. He was stoked that the Nissan Navara has triumphed over the 9 contenders. Although it’s possible in bad form ….. Ross had to souvenir that edition.

We are off to do a Dolphin cruise this morning. The huge boat has a boom net and water slide, so we’re hoping that Poo Poo Head is old enough to have a go. Fingers crossed.

The dolphin watch was a limited success. There were 3 pods of dolphins that hung around the boat for a while. Poo Poo Head was only concerned with the water slide and boom net that hung off the rear of the boat.

After the dolphin show was over we headed across closer to the shore and they prepared the water slide and boom net. Poo Poo Head was ready and waiting to go …….. that was before he seen what the boom net actually was.

He wasn’t so sure any more. He learnt a valuable lesson today; just because it’s a slide, it might not be something we are all that keen on getting on. Slide come in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes they come disguised as evil tubes that squirt Poo Poo Head’s by the dozen out the back of big boats into a large fishing net dragging behind in what looks like the SEA !!!!!!!!!!!!

Ross managed to convince him to have a sit in the boom net …. out of the water and on Ross’s knee. He wasn’t going anywhere that bloody water slide, that was for sure.

We had lunch as predicted, at NSW award winning fish and chip shop BuB’s on the wharf. It was pretty good to. Followed by more odd coloured ice-cream for the Poo Poo Head. They had live music on the wharf and it was nice to sit and take it all in.

After lunch Poo Poo Head had a nap in the air conditioned comfort of the camper and Ross went for a ride around the place.

Ross atarted off at the light house and made his way to Shoal Bay and into the headland along a very steep paved track. The track was so steep the rear wheel was slipping on the paving. Half way up, with sweat pouring, and legs burning he came across a really old guy sliding down the path on his backside. The old guy was at least in his 70’s and didnt look real good either in the 37 deg heat. He didnt acknowledge Ross and Ross couldn’t work out if he was senile or heated exhausted.

Ross walked with him all the bottom trying to talk to him and get him to drink some water. At the bottom he stood up and started to walk. He had slide at least 400 or 500 metres on his arse. The had messed him self, torn the arse from his pants and was wandering onto the road in front of cars.

Ross called 000, kept him safe and guided him into a facility at the bottom of the hill for some help. Ross managed to get the old guy to drink some water. The facility turned out to be the home for this guy and people of like kind. The knucklehead that greeted Ross banged on about how “John” does this all the time, and gave some dignity/freedom argument. Ross was astounded and told him him the poor old guy could easily have died in the heat; gave the dickhead a mouth full and rode off remembering to add that place to the list of homes not to retire to.

We head across to One Mile Beach which is a popular surf beach on the open coast line not far from Nelson Bay. It was a little windy and not much surf, but a nice safe beach for Poo Poo Head to play. Across the adjoining headland we could see Samurai about 500 metres away. Samurai Beach is a Clothing Optional beach that Ross wanted to go to for a laugh but was Poo Poo’ed by Barb. It’s ironic that Barb picked Nelson Bay for the trip south, because Ross had Samurai Beach on his list for the trip north.

George; I put a $20 deposit on this boat for you …. they are happy to hold it until you get here with the rest of the money.
