16 Toowoon Bay

Another hot day today and again it was getting warm early in the morning, but of course that meant back to the beach. These guys arrived and spread out like leaking sewerage, awning tied down for a hurricane, washing everywhere, awning mat, beach toys, 100 bikes and kids exploded and went in all directions …. then the following morning the site was vacant and they were gone Older couple arrived with this brand new massive New Age van and Range Rover. Very impressive set up including wireless cameras on each side of the front of the van looking backwards In the annex [ ... ]

15 Toowoon Bay

The new neighbours opposite were laughing and jerking around quite late. A booming voice (not Ross’s) told them to “shut the f$%k up”, and all was deathly silent The day started with clear skies and warmed up early. Ross and Barb walked into The Entrance with intentions of doing it along the beach. Unfortunately the tide was high which means only soft sand to walk on so it was back to the road. The Entrance is named for the ocean entrance into the Tuggerah Lake system. The entrance itself is a narrow track through the sand bar and apparently accounts for bugger all [ ... ]

13 & 14 Toowoon Bay

Nothing much to report these couple of days. Weather yesterday was crap almost all day. We did get a brief window where we all walked the 4.5km into The Entrance, but that was about the extent of it. This the water park in The Entrance, back in around 2010 where Daniel slipped and split his chin open; one of the times he’s split his chin Ross was out fishing in the kayak on the lake when Daniel split his chin Little bit of carnage from the storm over night Today was a little warmer and more stable with less drizzle, but still not a great [ ... ]

12 Toowoon Bay

Mild night, but it started to heat up early this morning The forecast said 33deg with 60% humidity which is hot enough. Neither Barb or Ross actually checked the actual temperature before they headed off for a 20km walk. Unbeknown to them the temperature was climbing very quickly toward its peak of 39.2deg and there was not a cloud in the sky It was hot but didnt think it was too bad, yet Barb was convinced it seemed hotter than yesterday. We almost made it back when Barb started to feel light headed. We sat for 5 min in the shade and headed back [ ... ]

11 Toowoon Bay

Nice, quiet and mild night. Our neighbours mentioned that this end of the park is quieter than the other end. Not sure why, but it was pretty quiet last night We are actually camped next to the toilet block, clothes lines and dump bin, which did raise four eyebrows when we arrived yesterday. Turns out it is actually really quiet and also pretty convenient. The usual stench that can ooze out of a caravan park dump bin, particularly during hot summer holidays when they get a huge workout, isnt the case here theres no smell at all, even right at the bin The [ ... ]

10 Toowoon Bay

Another quiet and mild night for our last night in Nambucca Heads. We packed up most stuff last night, Ross thought for an early checkout because he had a 5 hour drive. Nope, didnt leave till 10am Called into the Taree roadhouse to fuel up the car, let Max stretch his legs and fuel up Daniel in the KFC and it was bloody hot. All the caravan trailer parking was occupied entirely by cars, not a single van in sight The truck parking area out the back was half full of cars, campers and caravans. Most of the truck bays were occupied by [ ... ]

09 Nambucca Heads

A slightly warmish night, but at least there was a slight breeze. Us on the breakwall New Years eve No-one is really 100% sure where the front selfie camera lens is actually located on the phone. Barb looks like she thinks it might be up in a tree off to the left Mass exodus from the caravan park this morning. We would normally expect more people to arrive today but the park’s no vacancy sign has been up the entire time and yet the 2 x slab sites next to us have been vacant the whole time until one was occupied yesterday. We spoke [ ... ]

08 Nambucca Heads

A nice breeze last night, which was nice after the previous still and humid night. The forecast was for winds to pick up after lunch si we hit the beach early Barb took Max for a long walk along the beach while Ross and Daniel mucked around in the large messy chop, alternating between the boogie board and inflatable tyre. Ross and Daniel had the entire north beach almost to themselves The tide was out and the waves were dirty, rough and dumpy with small rips which were forming randomly along the beach. Once the undertow start to sweep south across the beach Ross [ ... ]

07 Nambucca Heads

New years eve, not that its has any sigificance for either Ross or Barb. Ross will be asleep well before midnight, and Barb will stay up because she cant sleep with the celebrations surrounding us Bit warmer over night, and not much of a breeze either making it a bit uncomfortable Ross and Barb went for a decent ride this morning out of Nambucca and followed the river along the old highway before headind back through town the the breakwall Out on the highway is a rare sight, an abandoned KFC and McDonalds on opposite corners One the return ride Barb conquered the shorter [ ... ]

06 Nambucca Heads

Another great night for sleeping, perfect temperature and a whisp of a breeze caressing Ross’s hairy arse. Now, try to erase that mental image Ross slept right through until almost 8am this morning … which are both unheard off at home. Ross maintains that living in Victoria is slowly but surely killing him, and he should be living somewhere, anywhere, north in order to survive. Ross and Barb walked to the breakwall before breakfast. Max has done enough activity over the last few days so he had a respite day today. Without Max Ross and Barb could walk back along all the beaches [ ... ]

05 Nambucca Heads

The day temperatures are pretty high, high enough to make even sitting in the shade without a breeze quite uncomfortable. But the temperature overnight is very mild. Barb took Max for a walk this morning whilst the boys rode their new bikes around. Nambucca Heads is quite hilly and Ross found a couple of short but particularly very steep street climbs and has set the challenge that each of us must climb before we leave Nambucca Heads. One of the climbs is the short winding access road to Main Beach just outside the caravan park gates It only 8.30am but its [ ... ]

04 Nambucca Heads

Nice mild night last night. Ross and Barb took Max for a walk through town and down the the breakwall to the Nambucca River entrance. Ross doesnt mess around or take chances when it comes to the morning brew After breakfast we all headed to the off lead dog beach. Max loves the beach and this didnt disappoint, Max went berserk. 3 hours in and out of the water and constantly running wasnt enough to slow him down Now that we can only camp in K9 friendly camps or caravan parks, we can also only swim at K9 friendly beaches. That is a [ ... ]

03 Nambucca Heads

A mild night by the Myall River last night which is lucky considering the current daytime temperatures which could easily cause hot sticky nights. No rush this morning to pack up, all the hard work driving is done now. We’re due to check in at Nambucca Heads after lunch and its only a casual 2 1/2 hours drive from Bulahdelah to Nambucca Heads. A ex-army truck pulled in very early this morning towing an expensive South African built Conquerer offroad trailer behind it. Who pulls into a campground at 6am. They would have woken the entire campground with the truck reversing [ ... ]

02 Bulahdelah

Very quiet and mild night with a breath of breeze moving through the van. We all slept like corpses. They have an Allepo Pine sappling here in the Veterans camp, a decendant of the original Lone Pine from the Gallipoli battle field. Max absolutely loves freecamping and the relative freedom to explore untetheted. Max just follows Ross around outside soaking it all up. It will be a little more restrictive on Max once we hit the caravan parks. We turned off the Hume into Goulburn to fuel up, find a park, make some lunch and let Max have a run around. Coles Express is [ ... ]

01. Xmas day

Everyone has a new bike, maybe techically not Barb but her bike lives in the house and never gets used so everytime is like the first Here we go again, on our annual pilgrimage north … what could go wrong (not us in the pic by the way) We spent Xmas morning with the kids … and the grand kids, enjoying the buzz that only comes from little people. We got away at 11ish when Ben and Renee’s tribe left for the parade of family get togethers. Traffic was a little heavier than expected getting into the city, but we still managed a pretty [ ... ]
