South West Rocks

Drove the relatively short distance from Port Macquarie to South West Rocks. South West Rocks is a coastal village about 40 kilometres off the Pacific Hwy north east of Kempsey. The drive in follows the Macleay River which is as wide as the Murray almost the entire distance from Kempsey to South West Rocks. South West Rocks is situated on Horseshoe Bay and Trail Bay. Horseshoe Bay faces almost directly north and we can see Barb’s beloved Nambucca Heads in the distance. We picked the Horseshoe Bay caravan park. [ ... ]

Port Macqaurie day 2

It’s nice to stay a couple days in one place. We have to balance the distances we need to travel with Poo Poo Head’s understandable difficulty with long distances. We need to be in Surfers Paradise on a set date and we don’t want to simply drive and see caravan park toilets blocks for 5 weeks. The short drives and overnight stays are great for Poo Poo Head, and although we cover the required distances, whilst Poo Poo Head and Barb start to explore the surroundings as soon as we stop, Ross commits to [ ... ]

Port Macquarie

Arrive in Port Macquarie quite early, not a very long drive today much to Poo Poo Head’s delight. Big developed city built around the harbour and rock wall entrance. They encourage graffiti painting of the rock wall by anyone who can be bothered. We saw the same thing a few years back in Nambucca Heads (Barb’s moistest favorite place in the cosmos) We should have taken the time back then in Nambucca Heads to paint our own rock with Ben and Ash. We could check out if it would still be [ ... ]

No Photos????? What going on

***ALERT*** Photos updated from The Entrance to Seal Rocks The internet access in Port Macquarie is a little slow, it is fine for text updates but photos and video would take forever, and we are trying the relax and get drunk. We’ll upload the photos and video as soon as we get a faster connection

Hallidays Point

We found the Poo Poo Head caravan park at Hallidays Point at Black Head just north of Forster-Tuncurry. It is a kids mecca with most of the park geared with little ones in mind. The pool included an ankle deep wet playground, there was large indoor activity centre complete with the deepest ball pit that either Ross and Barb had seen. The was a further 2 playgrounds, jumping pillow and choo choo train that drives around the place and up in to the surrounding paddock twice a day. There was the usual games room, a [ ... ]

Seal Rocks – Barbs two bobs

Hi from the other half again!! I just had to say, for anyone travelling up in The Great Lakes Region that enjoys the beach, a spot of beach or rock fishing or just lazing around in the sunshine, that Seal Rocks at the most northern tip of Myall Lakes National Park, is a must. It is beautiful and picturesque, tranquil and somewhat isolated. There is nothing to spend your money on here – no shops, no pubs, no cafes, nothing other than a small general store up the road where you can pick up a small array of supplies. When [ ... ]

Seal Rocks day 2

In the camp ground area we are in, there are a number of older grey nomads that are spending their yearly pilgrimage to Seal Rocks for the annual let loose. They start singing by 9am and drinking by 3pm. They were all farting and burping last night, and telling dirty jokes …. Their average age would be around 70 !!!!!!. Lucky that old age still put them to bed before 10pm. Ross met a guy and his family from Melbourne on his first outing in his windup camper. He was born and bred [ ... ]

Seal Rocks

We packed up and followed the road further into the National Park to a ferry crossing at Bombah Point. We kind of had our minds set on an outrageous fee to cross the lake and cut about an hour from back tracking to the Pacific Hwy south through Tea Garden We were pleasantly surprised that the fee was only $4 each for the car and camper. We just missed the (empty) crossing and had to wait half an hour for the ferry to return the 50 metres. Although we were the only ones sitting on [ ... ]

Myall Lakes National Park

I’ve given up naming each entry by day ….. because I have no idea what bloody day it is. We left The Entrance behind bound for Myall Lakes National Park. While getting some fuel on the outskirts of The Entrance, the “low oil” warning on the Navara came on. Oil level checked fine but just to be safe we asked Katie to find us the nearest Nissan dealer/service for a quick nod and wink. There was no real concern, but with car computers recording such things, if it did happen to blow up they (Nissan) [ ... ]

Temporary Update

Blog updates have been a long time coming, unfortunately (or fortunately for us) we have been way outside mobile phone (and internet) range the last few days.   We have been travelling around the Myall Lakes National Park in the NSW Great Lakes area and Ross has been quite happy about being out of touch for a few days. We have manage to take over 700 photos and over an hour of video. Over the last 2 weeks, Ross has not bothered to wear a watch, nor take his phone and most times he even has no idea what day it is.   We [ ... ]

Day 9

The Entrance Poo Poo Head up V.E.R.Y. early this morning, so Ross had to take him for a walk out of the caravan park.   They went to a playground nearby to burn off Poo Poo Heads loud morning voice. Took Poo Poo Head to the beach, but he wasn’t in the mood to be much fun.   Headed back into town so Poo Poo Head could have a play in the wet playground at the water front.   Had a quick look at what shopping had to offer in the retail area, and then stocked up on a few necessities.   We both [ ... ]

Day 8

We were all up early this morning thanks to Poo Poo Head, but we wanted to leave early anyway because it was longer drive to The Entrance, north of Sydney. We picked up the Grand Pacific Drive out of Kiama but lost it somewhere around Shellharbour. The Grand Pacific Drive isn’t so grand. It is fantastic in spots with lot of side streets and connecting roads of zero value. We stayed on the highway until Wollongong and decided to head to the coast because we would eventually find the Grand Pacific Drive [ ... ]

Day 7

Kiama site Our first encounter with rain overnight.   We had a very brief but heavy enough passing shower. We also discover yesterday that we had driven from Narooma to Kiama with the outside awning light switched on. Barb was up early for a walk, whilst Poo Poo Head and I lay in bed watching cartoons on satellite TV.  (we love roughing it).   Ross’s attempt to manufacture a space ship pancake was a dismal failure, unlike the successful predecessor, the much revered pancake car. We did some “house work”, cleaning some mould from the awning before we organized the day. We drove up into the [ ... ]

Day 6

Left Narooma for Kiama this morning.   It was a longer drive which Poo Poo Head has come to dread.   One of the routes loaded into Katie is the Grand Pacific Drive which includes the coastal drive along the Sea Cliff Bridge near Wollongong. The Grand Pacific Drive is like a poor cousin to our magnificent Great Ocean Road, and end to end runs from Nowra to Sydney along the coast.   The views are pretty good.   Yesterday the road south was completely block unfortunately there was fatal accident somewhere south which block the road for many kilometres for south bound [ ... ]

Day 5

Good opportunity to clean the inch of dust out of the back of the ute and move Poo Poo Heads seat into the middle of the car.   We hope that might prolong the inevitable whinging from the rear seat if he can see out the front. The view over the inlet from our camp site Because we’ve based in the one place we havent needed to rely on my Katie to get us around, and it’s been really quiet in the car without Katie letting us know where every toilet is, real and imagined. Spent the morning in the Central Tilba and Tilba [ ... ]

Hi…from the other half!!

Hello! After deciding to write a little bit in Mallacoota, in my own defense to Ross’s “special” writing sense, which implied that I had done nothing in preparation for this trip (thanks muchly my love), I lost the whole piece I wrote … karma perhaps for my use of special language (jokingly of course..maybe karma didn’t realise this), Ive kept this piece much more low key! So, I don’t have much to say, really.  Ross, with all his dry humour and sarcasim, has actually done a good job of getting our trip story across so far, and as I can see [ ... ]

Day 4

Relatively short drive today from Ben Boyd National Park to Narooma. We stopped off at the Bega Cheese factory and stocked up on garlic and pepper cheese for a stinky good time tonight … which I’m inhaling as I type (along with the obligatory Bourbon) In Narooma, we are camped one spot from a guy that is one of the 800 or so members of a Yahoo Group for Expanda owners that I’m a member of. Small world. Lucky we weren’t here yesterday, it hit 37 degrees in Narooma. Funny that just down the coast [ ... ]

Day 3

Our next door neighbour at Mallacoota was a travelling sign writer running a sign business from his old van whilst travelling the country. He had a computer system and vinyl cutting machine mounted inside the van. We left Mallacoota after a L.O.N.G. chat with the sign writer. Before we manage to get back to the highway Poo Poo Head vomited all over himself and the car. Add the warm sunny day and you probably get the picture. We only had a short drive to the Ben Boyd National Park just over the NSW border. We came across [ ... ]

Day 2

A little video of the drive up in the car. It’s a bit long, sorry The Bairnsdale slide video Mallacoota camp site on Google Earth Both Ross and Barb slept like logs, Barb more so with her self-medicating with wine.   Barb did go to the chemist at one point during the day, it’s presumed that’s where she collected her “medicine”. Not much TV reception here either, very average ABC signal is all we can muster.   It was a perfect time to break out the satellite dish.   A large tree was all that stands between us and TV bliss, so [ ... ]

Day 1

I got the camper out of the backyard to park on the nature strip over night for fast early morning get away.   The circuit breakers for all three camper auxiliary electrical power supplies all tripped, and wouldn’t stay on when reset.   3 out of 3, normally a perfect score. To add some confusion just in case I might know how the fix it, Murphy manage to throw in this ripper little gem.   One of the power supplies was still producing current even when tripped.   Normally I would be happy to be able to harness free power appearing from nowhere but not [ ... ]
