386. Cundletown

Hapy New year to all.   Ross was in bed by 10pm, but waking up this morning refreshed and with a clear head found New Year had arrived regardless

Camp Crusty in Cundletown.   Cundletown is just off the Pacific Hwy, so tomorrow its a short drive back to the highway and we are only a short distance from the next stop at Karuah

Lovely quiet spot on the banks of the Dawson River

We have Mexican Melbourne’itte friends traveling about in northern NSW, and they’re currently at Harrington which is on the beach only about 20km from our riverside camp at Cundletown.

They booked last minute from Melb and luckily picked up a cancellation at Harrington, a very popular holiday destination

We headed to Harrington to spend the day with Jamie, Deanne and the boys Campbell and Jordon.   Jordon is one of Daniel’s buddies from school.

Harrington was a choatic holiday town in full swing, much like Rosebud is for us.   There was a water side market on and a carnival.  There were people and cars everywhere.   The place was jumping a and bulging at the seams, it was nuts.

We found the guys at an enormous caravan park which was also chaotic and bulging at the seams.

We all headed the 5km from Harrington to Crowdy Head surf beach.   We’ve visited and camped at so many “Heads” both Ross and Barb was sure we’d been to Crowdy head before, but it was all new to us.

There’s a beach car access point a little further up the beach.   On the beach in the car, people was drive around 10 km’s along the beach and find a nice secluded spot away from the “between the flags” hordes.   There’s been quite a few White shark sightings around Harrington/Manning Point areas

The water at Crowdy Head was bloody freezing

Daniel was beside himself to catch up with the boys and lapped up every minute of it.   Daniel had an absolute ball, and it was good to see him enjoy the company of his school mates.   It was great for Ross and Barb to spend the day with Jamie and Deanne.   We did  plan on staying for some takeaway, head to the carnival and watch the fireworks but shortly after getting back to their caravan park the sky opened up and the forecast rains started and looked like it was settling, which it did and rained most of the night.

The rain ruined what would have been a great night with our friends, but at least we had a great day.

All five boys in the cold water, Jamie and Ross out the back waiting for the larger waves to roll in

Ross flew the drone over the water from a point away from the beach.
