396. Sydney to Canberra (Bungendore)

Something has gone horribly wrong with our day numbering.   After looking like we somehow werent going to make our 400 day target, Ross checked the GoogleWeb for a calendar calculator, only to find we are actually on track for the 400 days but somewhere we miss-numbered the blog day numbers.  Today is actually day 396, aso we’ve had to jump 3 days which Ross will have to find after we get home and likely renumber the entire blog

Good news is we will definitely surpass our 400 day target

We’ve been very busy in Sydney, but its time to leave.   Daniel enjoyed his rendezvous with Australia’s largest city and his beloved Opera House.

We break camp this morning to start the drive toward home, although we still have week left Ross’s heart is deflating like a 2 week old Bunnings balloon.

Ross finally shaved his beard off, and took the opportunity to make a wig from the off cuts … albeit a mohawk

We’re heading to Bungendore in NSW, 40km from Canberra to catch up with friends, Phil and Michelle and try to cheer Ross up.

Our house is now vacant and we’ve reconnected the power and gas, and the phone and internet will be next.   The removal truck has been booked … its starting to look a little like going home may be serious.  Still, Ross isnt convinced; while there’s life there’s hope

Ross loves Canberra because he has a love hate relationship with politics.   He loves the fundamentals of the political arena, but cant stomach the wankers that play it out on stage.   Its difficult for Ross to drive anywhere near Canberra without heading to our Federal Parliament House.   You just never know when an unsuspecting politician may naively wander out into the public area where Ross could broadside them with any number of issues Ross has tucked away waiting for an airing.

We stopped to get a coffee at one of the large roadhouse complexes, and found a bikie gang in residence in the carpark.   It was an Asian bikie gang … it really difficult to be intimidated by an Asian bikie gang.  Excuse the giant turd on the window in the photo

Before we left the Lane Cove an old guy wandered past with his wife banging on about some river paddle from Northem to Perth called the Avon Challenge.  He couldnt believe hadnt heard of it, or been in it.

He struggled to remember the name of the river, “love” he said, “what’s the name of that river, you know the famous Avon challenge river” …. the Avon River!

We drove into Bungendore town to the IGA for bread and milk before heading to the showground free cap.   We weren’t expecting much but Bungedoe is a really nice town

The showground camp area is really good and a bit of a hidden gem, and only 40min from Canberra
