Mystery Bay NSW

The ducted heater gets the van pretty warm, and for some it can be a little difficult to get moving in the mornings

Tilba Tilba is a small historic town where the ABC cheese factory is located, home of Tilba Real Diary and Tilba cheese.   We’ve discovered any commercial supermarket style diary produce manufacturer basically sells supermarket diary products.   In hindsight that revelation should not have come as such the surprise it did.   There was an awesome lolly shop in town where all manner of old style lollies could be purchased; by old style we mean the lollies Ross would buy at his local milk bar when he was kid

Another of the Yester’Daniel series of photos to compliment the Cann River 25 pounder and blue hippo shots.  This time its a swing out the back of one of the Tilba Tilba shops.   The original swing was on the right and had a solid seat, but we havent bothered looking for the original 8 year old photo as yet

We headed to Mystery Bay to free camp in the bush.   We didnt realise that the freecamp was huge and adjacent to a great beach in one section, and overlooking a ocean cliff in another section.   We found a secluded area and managed to weave the van through.   The area had a short path to a cliff top clearing where Barb could sit watching for whales.  Unfortunately there was another camp with doof doof music playing and had we decided to stay there would have without any doubt ended in conflict

We drove around through the large cleared areas but for us, after after the beach and cliff top views, we were now spoilt and wanted more than a simple bush camp … we wanted a simple bush camp with spectacular views.   There were quiet a few well entrenched but unoccupied campsites where people had mulitple tents spread out, gazebos and house furniture.   We’ve experienced this kind of entitled wankers who cheapen what should be truly awesome camp areas and should be moved on.

We found what we were after but I took some devilishly cleaver manoeuvring to get the van and car post the posts and trees, but what an awesome spot with direct beach access.

There was a few long drops scattered through the camp area.   Long drops can be located at both ends of the quality scale, from putrid stench filled eye burning torture chambers to clean, smell free facilities complete with provided shit tickets.   These particular long drops were up toward the better ones

Outside the camp area, a walk through the scrub to beach carpark area access was a very basic, and cold water only shower

This place would be manic in holiday periods particularly Xmas time, but for us and where we pitched camp it was peaceful and empty … just the way we prefer it
