Washed out …….

For the Patrols last trip we went down to the Trida property to meet with the Plantation Timber Company and discuss and organise the upcoming logging activities. Machinery access is the primary concern along with the required processing areas.

Unfortunately the weather closed in and it rained all night. It had been nice and clear and mild when we arrived Friday afternoon, but when the weather closed in late late during the evening, it made the place like a bog hole. Prior to the tree felling, the property will require some minor roadworks which should make winter access better for next year.

The BMW got bogged (which was to expected). That was all very funny, but the humor evaporated when I came back to collect the camper and promptly got bogged as well. Even with two sets of recovery chains, the combination of the hill, the mud and the camper weight was just to great of a obstacle to overcome. After last times muddy effort, I came prepared with snow and mud chains which did little to help.

I picked a great farewell for the Patrol, bogged up to the axles and more mud inside than out. The Patrol is going back to square out the ledger. We will be using a ute for a while to drag the camper around.

The cattle hung around the fire like they could smell a Uncle Cleatus or another ‘relative’ sizzling on the hotplate. Yum Yum, the first of the steers selected to cross the Jordan, thought it best to keep his distance. He seemed to know the opportunity for him to get close to the hotplate would come soon enough, without tempting fate today.
