The Panda’s second voyage

Another short weekend jaunt in the Panda; this time to Phillip Island. After collecting the Panda from her biological parents (Jayco) after a few simple and relatively minor repairs … they somehow managed to actually make the problems worse. A quick telephone call to Jayco has the Panda returning next week to hopefully get it fixed properly.

We didnt bother to book before leaving for Phillip Island. Being a couple of weeks before the Easter break, what was the point, no-one would be away on holidays anyway; right?. Wrong; arrived at the Cowes Caravan Park expecting the pick of the primo beach front site …. but …. booked out. Whoops.

We ended up the park next door which is quite small but it also backs onto the beach. The view from our site was not so impressive and certainly not what we were hoping for … a giant pare of Bombay Bloomers hanging on the clothes line next door. Sexy as they were, they caught enough wind to stop our awning from flapping during the night.

We wandered along the beach past the Cowes Caravan Park (our first, but booked out choice) and their sites are virtually on the beach. What a position to wake upto, overlooking the beach; oh, to dream. Maybe next time.

A huge rig is anchored of Cowes I can only presume is for the Desalination plant down the coast. It looks the same as the rig off the Gold Coast when they built the desaliniation plant up there. The Anti Delsalination army was outside Coles supermaket selling stickers and signs. I felt like offering a swap for my “More Melb Water, Anyway, Anyhow” stickers.

The giant rig in the bay is possibly there just to stick it up them.

We are camped not far from the block of units owned by my parents for many years, and where I spent most of my holidays and long weekends during my formative years. It looks a little different now, painted over the dark brown brick and surrounded and congested by modern and new homes, but seeing it and strolling along the beach brings back many great memories. This is where I began surfing, sailing, spear fishing and where I learned to water ski.

The caravan park pool was nice and clean, slightly heated for a nice little dip, and not a single bandaid in sight.

But the guy in the tent opposite our site snored all night like a grizzly bear with a chain saw.

Daniel parked his bike in a very funny location  ,and we found what would have to be the best toilet location in Australia.

We stopped for a picnic lunch at San Remo on the way back

I seen this shop and thought “what the hell”. I stripped off and went in to order a sausage roll sandwich and they all looked at me like I had had 2 heads. I thought if it was good enough for the customers to nude up, why are the staff dressed (possible hygiene I suppose). Nice sausage roll though.
