387. Cundletown to Karuah

It rained all night here at Cundletown.

We left Cuddletown all cuddled out and head south off the Pacific Hwy and along the Lakes Way which winds its way through the awesome Great Lakes area including Forster Tuncurry.

We drove through Taree; with the fwy bypass like most towns now we just bypass them and we’ve never driven through Taree before.   A quick wander up the main street and a look in the real estate window.   This stunningly beautiful old weatherboard home on a double 1/3 acre block right in town and only $379k.   Our city property dollar would be very powerful in country Oz

The local Bing Lee store has 75inch LED Tv’s, hmmmmm … interesting

One of our (and many other) favorite places is off the Lakes Way, Seal Rocks.   Seal Rocks is an oasis with nowhere to spend any money.   There’s a great kids safe beach at Sugarloaf bay directly out front of the caravan park, and a rocking surf beach, Treachery Beach east on the other side of the headland.   Treachery Beach is accessible by car and make for a great spot to load up the car for the day, drive down onto the beach and to find your own piece of beach.

The view driving out of the bush and into Seal Rocks is second to none.   Its a huge shock and not what we expected the first time we stayed there.   This time around we could get a camp site so we just call in to say high.

Onward toward Karuah where we’re staying 2 nights before we head into Sydney.   When we arrived in Karuah one site adjacent was vacant and the other encroaching half a metre onto our site.   Oh well, we set up camp and went for a walk and when we got back the vacant site was occupied and encroaching about a metre onto our site.

The site is really deep and the car is still hitched to the van, so its not a huge issue, just a display of complete disregard for others and even physical boundaries.   Not having to unhitch raises make us very very happy, but some people just have zero social boundaries, and are just completely clueless.

The burnt off poison line through the site is the site boundary, so only a moron or real prick would not have seen that.   With all the open space and country courtesy’s we’ve become very used to, this shit is incredibly frustrating, claustrophobic, disrespectful and just creepy that they seem happy to be in our pockets.   Beam us back up north Scotty

This caravan park is a Big4 which just translates into Big $, and way too many squeezers, urban bushman, and turds.   One interesting addition to this caravan park is they have coin operated bait machines up near the office.   The machines are like Coke machines, drop your coins in and select a button for which bait you might like.

There’s a rickety jetty behind the caravan park through the mangroves and a small ramp only good for small tinnies and kayaks.   We’re here for 2 days, its really windy now but tomorrow might allow Ross to take the kayak out.

Some indescribable, unseaworthy piece of crap tied up floating at the jetty … with a BBQ on the roof.

Theres an even more richety boardwalk through the mangroves.   The boardwalk allowed us to get up close with the mangroves, but it felt like we might end up closer than we’d hope.
