388. Karuah

Another day treading water in Karuah, sandwiched in between a couple of wankers.   Ross isnt really sure why we arent free camping somewhere far far away from other humans.   We do our best work as far from other people as possible.   If we just headed an hour inland we could have found a piece of paradise or at least a piece of Oz around like minded people.

Last night Ross went out to the car to grab some grog out of the Engel and noticed his mountian bike sitting a little skewed on the roof rack.   Not having yet actually had any of the grog he was obtaining, he immediately thought something was amiss.   The locking folk clamp that holds the bike on is adjustable to suit different bikes.   A threaded sleeve screws in and out to adjust for differing thickness of forks and can over time we presume loosen with road vibration if the bike isnt used for a while.

The act of taking the bike on and off causes adjustment of the sleeve to close the clamp, so the more we use it, in theory, the less likely the clamp will loosen off

Ross hasn’t taken either the kayak or bike off regardless of the road conditions, so its really odd that the bike has stayed put over some of the worst roads and tracks in Oz, and then vibrates loose on the highway over a relatively short distance.   Ross is the only one who take the bike on and off the car because he’s the only one tall enough and strong enough … so its all on his head.

The bike was found leaning against the kayak but could have easily leaned the other way and fell off the roof on the winding steep drive through the Great Lakes.   The bike is likely to have come out of clamp closer to Karuah because it would be unlikely to stay put through the Lakes Way drive.

A lazy day around the caravan park today.   Daniel made a friend yesterday with a 11 year old boy from Sydney and they spent all day on and off together on the iPads, in the pool and generally mucking around.

Barb read her book and Ross read some literature on automated drone flight (Ross hates fiction)
