……… The holiday is over

Vintage-The-End

Friday is our last morning away on the 2014 East Coast holiday …. spent packing the last of the gear away before we hit the road for the depressing journey home.

We woke up to a fantastic day ….. bloody typical. Not a cloud in the sky, not a breath of wind … and soon not us in sight

We cleaned up the last of the gear, checked and double checked that everything was away, locked, attached, cleaned, sealed, switched on, switched off.

Its a long 1100km drive home: 12 hours of drive time plus refuelling, food and toilet stops. More than enough time to reflect on the holiday and slowly increase the levels depression as we head south. We quickly forgot the days of crap weather; we even forgot the torn awning that Daniels owes Ross $1000 for (we may have forgotten the torn awning, but we didn’t forget the $1000)….. we just didnt want to go home

The drive was almost 14 hours exactly from our caravan park site, to parking on our nature strip at home at 10pm. Daniel who is generally a good traveller, stepped it up a levee today. We didn’t hear a peep out of him for the entire 14 hours

The sight of the Welcome to Victoria sign as you cross the Murray River at Albury, is a horrible reminder that the holiday is actually over for another year. Its been a mix bag as far as weather is concerned; no a complete catastrophe, but good either … any bad day on holidays is better than the best day at work (except pay day of course).

The new car lived unto it its promise and towed like a freight train. The car itself is virtually identical to the traded car which also was great, except the change to a new V6 engine / auto gearbox combo. The new van had its issues as was expected, none of which were insurmountable. The extra little additions upgraded from the older van were nothing short of fantastic. The onboard shower, toilet and washing machine were worth their weight in gold. The stereo also got a workout. The van towed really well, and the car towed it really well. The slight lunging was cancelled out by a weight distribution hitch, and the electronic stability control added a level of confidence to the towing.
