Nelson Bay. Day 5

It rained quite heavily through most of the night.

We woke up to a beautiful clear blue sky …. which rapidly clouded over and it started to drizzle.

The forecasters promised clear skies today. The weather bastards have managed to get the constant rain right … so is it too much to expect they get the one and only clear day correct

At about 9.30am, the weather bastards were vindicated and the cloud started to disappear …. but only because the really strong wind was blowing it away. Better than the alternative.

The sun was warm, and in the caravan park the wind was limited to a strong breeze, because the headland was protecting the caravan park from the south westerly

We all went for a bike ride into, and beyond Nelson Bay township; 2 excitedly … and 1 reluctantly.

Once we got over the hill protecting the caravan park from the full impact of the gusty south westerly, the wind was very strong … and the whinging just as strong.

We rode about 3km out of town along the walking/bike path which meanders around the coast through the trees and along the water. The wind was calmer on the path, which runs past some great views and nice peaceful beaches

(There has to be 5min of credit in that one)

This large fly bridge game fishing boat seems to have been left to rot away. All the canvas had disintegrated, the windows broken, engine covers missing and engine parts missing. The deck and fibreglass is covered in a surface eating growth, the engines have massive weed growths, as does the hull.

The odd thing is the thing is still taking up a berth in the marina amongst some big money boats, so someone must be paying the mooring fees. In prime condition it would be worth a small fortune

Ross and Daniel went to the skate ramp, where Ross shit his pants on the small ramp ….

Its 9pm and we’ve packed up our camp for the last time this trip for an early start on the road tomorrow morning. An early start for us unfortunately usually ends up around 10am, but tomorrow its important to get away as soon as possible ….. because primarily we have no food left.

We’re presuming that we’ll likely drive through to home tomorrow, if Ross is happy to keep driving.

But we’ve filled the water tanks in case theres a free camp tomorrow night somewhere on the road south

The trip has gone incredibly fast even with the big chunks of crap weather. Having the van set up comfortably and properly, means we can mentally deal better with shit weather, and this trip has tested that a bit.

We’re spending our last night watching the most boring tennis player alive suck the life out of the sport. Watching Andy Murray will make our last night feel like its lasting forever …. especially if he talks.
