It Daniels 8th birthday today, and he was extremely fortunate to have Finley here with him to share it with.
Daniel was so spoilt at xmas, which was combined with Ross and Barb being well under prepared, so the gifts were actually quite pathetic. But Daniel wouldnt have appreciated anything on the holistic wellness scale, which is about all thats on offer in Byron Bay. We had a cursory wander about Ballina a couple of days ago, but the inspiration wasnt jumping out. Anything worth having, Daniel alread has. We needed the choices only available in the big smoke.
Daniel (with some carefully orchestrated manipluation, along with some well place prompting) decided that it would be better to wait for a week and cash up big time when we get home. A choice, no doubt, Ross will pay heavily for.
To hold him over, Daniel recieved some surprise Star Wars figures bought at Ballina Target and packaged up in tied off shopping bags. No matter how much love and effort was put into labelling ….. they were still in shopping bags. There was also cheap supermarket cake to round of the mediocre birthday effort, but Daniel didnt care.
Daniel wanted to go to Gold Class for his birthday but we convinced him that a $50 Gold Class ticket wasnt as impressive as the $5000 we spent to get him to the Byron Bay cinema. Unfortunately Daniels choice of movies wasnt on at Byron, so we had to drive south to Ballina.
We are away for Daniels birthday most years, and this years birthday was a slight departure from last year where Daniel got so much stuff we could barely get it all into the camper.

Daniel picked Free Birds, a movie about wild turkeys. Ross was speechless with excitment, it was almost like it was his birthday. How could Ross be so damned lucky, the gods must be smiling on him. He was happy with his thoughts as we drove down to Ballina …. the anticipation was killing him. Imagine …. an afternoon watching a movie about it, followed by an evening drinking it
Ross was very confused and upset when the move started. Sure, there were wild turkeys ….. but there were no Wild Turkeys.
What a cruel ruse. But the trip to Ballina wasnt completely wasted. Ross and Barb found a great gift idea for each and every member of their families for xmas, birthdays, bar mitzvahs, and anniversaries for the entire 2014 year
The Wild Birds movie reminded Ross that he’d left his good buddy back in Melbourne.
Ross wanted to bring Banjo along but Barb poo poo’ed the idea. Ross was looking forward to playing Angry Birds with Banjo, but instead, Banjo will be the angry bird.

Daniel ‘apparentley’ picked a Thai restuarant and laska for his birthday dinner. Ross was told that fact it was Barbs favorite meal in Barbs favorite restaurant was merely an odd coincidence, and she had no influence on it at all.
