Main Beach. Day 6

“D Day”

Today …. its “D Day” … Sir Daniel day, all day

We’ve declared today Sir Daniel day, which puts Sir Daniel in the pilots chair and will direct all (most) of the day’s activities … with some subtle adult steering.

Its a potentially stupid idea that Ross and Barb may live to regret, so they listed some practical rules in a naive attempt to keep the day in check. The first rule for any newly crown king is “with great power, comes great responsibilty”. With no possible clue whatever the hell that even means, we say, let the games begin.

The rules are simple; we do what Sir Daniel wants to do within the reasonable well entrenched family standard operating protocols. Nothing ridiculous (which of cause is extraordinarily subjective when observed through adult, or alternatively 8 year old eyes), no activity for more than an hour unless its healthy (to avoid a whole day of Minecraft or some other computer or xbox game), nothing costing more than the national debt (again, very interesting when viewed by someone who has no concept of worth)

But this idiotic and empty list of rules made Ross and Barb feel better, and feel slightly in control. We all know it didnt, but the list made them feel happy.

Plus theres the non published rule located somewhere in the small print where Ross and/or Barb can invoke the Combined Sitting of the Executive Council rule ….. and just say “no”

So far Sir Daniel has requested wire and tools to make a robot like the robot he bought from the market last night … so far D Day is working out ok.
image

We could have burnt up half of D Day by driving around sourcing wire …. but Ross materialised some wire from his endless toolbox.

The robot making went quite well. Not as a career type of well, more mildly bordering on mediocrity type of well …. or pretty shit really.

Breakfast at McDonald’s …. He never asks for breakfast at McDonald’s. McDonalds is probably not so great, but all things considered not as bad as it could be and Ross and Barb can “assist” in the menu selection

Ross and Barb just watched on …. dreaming of a real coffee and thinking things are travelling well …. early days, but good so far. Nothing stupid, no extremes, nothing totally unexpected

The sky is clear, the surf has toned down quite a bit. The surfs not good surf, but its not treacherous like it has been. The clear sky brings the full heat of the day with it, and it was almost 30deg by 9am and the sun is biting hard.

Ross and Barb are hoping Sir Daniel might put the beach on his list of activities … and theyre conspiring to nudge him in that general direction.

Like a true gentleman, Sir Daniel made a generous provision for Ross’ s morning coffee at Starbucks. Unfortunately the coffee was pox, and Sir Daniels insistence we sit outside in the heat added to the poxy’ness of the coffee.

First stop was Timezone where they have a tourist style display board of activities to search, for inspiration …. and of course you might as well jump onto the Mini Rider 2 for a quick blast while your in Timezone

And the Big Sweetland is an opportunity you should never pass up

Then for Ross and Daniel it was off to Ripleys Believe it or Not, whilst somehow Barb managed to briefly weasel out of D Day and headed off for a hair cut.

Barb will be really upset she missed Bumble Bee … Barb really likes Bumble Bee

Brothers ?????

Ripleys done to death and Barb returns incredibly, more beautiful than before. A lightening frozen yogurt stop to recharge and put some fuel in the tank ….

Ross and Barb tagged …. and Barb and Sir Daniel headed straight to Infinity; a very impressive series of high tech maze/visual effects rooms which takes about 30 to 40mins to negotiate

Ross chose to spend his surprise free time at …… you guessed it, a coffee shop; casually lounging back watching the world (and the weirdos) pass by whilst sipping his favoured beveridge.

The D Day budget is rapidly rachetting skyward; the kingdom financiers were getting worried …. but a reprieve came when Sir Daniel requested some relax time back at the van, followed by maybe a swim at the beach.

Its pretty hot today, so Sir Daniel has done well so far spending most of it outside in the heat. We grabbed some fruit and headed back to the glorious airconditioned comfort of the van.

Even with 3 physical televisions and 4 antenna points, we all sat together, some of us reluctantly, watching the cartoon Horrible Henry after Sir Daniel purloined the remote control. No-one could be bothered ….. and we all learnt some valuable life lessons thanks to Horrid Henry

Ross headed across the road to establish a forward beach head, and report back regarding a team assault on the surf. No-one wanted to leave the airconditioned van until the beach is a definate goer. A messenger was sent back and the team all advanced onto the beach for the afternoon. The surf was rough but managable with a strong sweep south.

Sir Daniel knows Barb is very cautious of the surf, and although he and Ross go out deeper, and into the smash zone regularly, the novelty of getting Barb into the surf is not lost on Sir Daniel. Sir Daniel had a ball after he played one of his last Sir Daniel trump cards and made Barb go into the water with him

Its now 7.30pm. We’re all back at the van, showered and ready for our home cooked dinner. The temperture has dropped and wind has sprung up. Its still slightly stuffy and humid, so the van is still sealed up with the aircon on. It reached about 33deg today; that feels like a high 30’s day by our Victorian standards, and the van aircon performed very well.

The mobile wood fired pizza dude is set up in the caravan park at the end of our street. Unfortunately for him our pizza night is tomorrow, so for us, his timing is one day out. We will likely venture out for pizza tomorrow night

Ross likes the idea of riding the bikes into Surfers, having dinner, a wander about and then riding back. Barbs not so keen, shes frightened that after a few drinks, she likely to ride off into the surf and disappear.
