Main Beach. Day 7

The van came with a little plug in 12v fan and light. They typically come with the windup campers. They plug into the bed light and clip onto the metal bar that the supports the canvas bed end
image
Theyre small and look a little cheap … which Ross interpreted as a gimmicky thing. Barb found it in the cabinet and attached it, turning the fan on one of the hot nights. It was terrific

Off to the surf club across the road for breakfast
image

Found a couple of humourous articles in the paper whilst enjoying a coffee and the view

The first one about a local Motivational Business Coach, who went broke owing $1million
image

The other is one of the sex assault victims of Bill Cosby ….. the scene of the crime? …. the Playboy Mansion. Ha. Really?
image

It was a hot day today and Barb wanted to head up into the Hinterland, the hills and National Parks behind the Gold Coast. Its about an hour drive from Surfers depending on which area your heading to

We headed up into the Tamborine Mountains, and a few of the towns which are a little like a poorer cousin to the Dandenongs back home. The views are certainly no compromise, theyre spectacular.

Driving out through Southport there was a large building being demolished in a way not commonly seen. It looked like a Beirut missile strike and was an incredibly powerful visual of how destructive the images of war we casually see on tv, and not give a second thought to …. and this only a huge renovation.
image

We headed to Canungra to start our Hinterland excursion. We’ve camped previously just out of Canungra, which has a beautuful old hotel in the town.
image

The church across the road seems to be built inside out … with the frame on the outide complete with structural bracing and noggins, and the weatherboards on the inside. The rest of Australia has always said QLD is the backwards State ….. and this only helps to comfirm it
image

Canungra itself is nice little town, like all the the towns we visited around Mt Tamborine. But none have the atmosphere of the towns in the Dandenongs.
We stopped in Nth Tamborine for a snack and the obligitory coffee at the Hillbilly Cafe. The cafe was a very nice new age place with yummy looking food.
image

Although the Redzed Strawberry Gourmet Protein Bites on offer had many yummy ingredients ……. not one of them was strawberry
image

Nice coffee though, but we missed out on the Dandyman and Ruby Rubberlegs show a week ago. Everyone was very disappointed
image

We were so, so tempted to stay a while in Nth Tambotine so we could partake in one of traditional local community activities, which seemed like it could be a lot if fun
image

Then it suddenly dawned on us that maybe we wouldnt be considered part of the community, even though we’d had coffee there, and maybe they’d be sticking pins in us …. or worse, because it is a community acupuncture clinic they probably use old nails. That isnt as much fun as sticking pins (or nails) randomly into them

Occasionally the Barb that most people miss out on makes an unscheduled appearance …. usually the tonic she gets from Dr Dan Murphy keeps it in check.

One town that is closer to a Dandenongs style town was Gallery Walk, which doesnt seem to exist on the map. Maybe its like Brigadoon ….. and it wont be there tomorrow

Gallery Walk as the name suggests, is an eclectic collection of galleries, new age offerings, cafes, restaurants and other shops including the biggest cuckoo clock shop in Australia.

A sure fire mystical sign/symbol was the regular style sign we just by chance happened to park next to. It was a car park posted as “small cars only” ….. and we were in the tiny Ford Fiesta and it was the only park available. This was no coicidence ….. it was intervention of the highest order. It was an incredible wow moment. Ross looked at Barb, his eyes darting back to the sign, with that unspoke but knowing, kinetic, non physical, higher order type look.
image

Ross then said “thats bullshit, wankers. Can we leave now”. Ross insisted if they were trully psychic …. they could ‘implant’ their location telepathically and wouldnt require the addon Shop 7 sticker. Why do psychics need to be paid, anyway?????

The views from Mt Tamborine were amazing, but what was more amazing is either the extent of our stupidity, or the fact there is no obvious lookout or platform to soak in the view. We had to park on the street and look between houses. The house in this pic, perched on the top of Mt Tamborine is for sale and has absolutely incredible views across the Gold Coast
image

The view to west from the other side of Mt Tamborine equally as impressive and had some easily locatable vantage points

These tents belong to 2 females German backpackers. The green one is normal human size 2 person tent, the blue is like a child size loungeroom toy tent … it was hot, humid and still all night and they would have been shockingly uncomfortable. This morning, with the tent open in a pitiful attempt to capture a non-existant breeze, the fully dressed occupant of the childs tent was clearly visible through the mesh lying all bent up like a half close rusty pocket knife in the heat. Not really our idea of an enjoyable holiday.
image

Its pizza night tonight so off into Surfers to La Porchetta. Its still hot and the place is pumping …… people everywhere. We were lucky that 3 is easier to seat than the larger groups waiting, so we walked almost straight in to the disgust of the waiting hoards

We were all a bit worn down by the hot day …. the Fiesta needs and aircon recharge. We wandered down to the water to cool off a little by putting our feet in

A couple of phone pics …. not to bad for a phone
